The recent gameplay demonstration forThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomintroduced a handful of new mechanics that will likely give players numerous amounts of creative ways to explore and battle their way through Hyrule in the upcoming game. One ability shown was Fuse, which allows players to combine multiple items, including weapons, to create new tools to help them on their journey. While this mechanic is sure to have endless potential,The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwould waste a perfect opportunity if it didn’t allow players to craft one of the series' best items.

WhileThe Legend of Zeldaseries has always placed a great emphasis on its various tools and weapons Link needs to collect to complete his quest, the ways in which these items appear change from game to game. Although both Bombs and Arrows are staple items in the series, few entries allow the player to combine the two to shoot explosive blasts at enemies or blow up scenery to help solve puzzles. With item crafting through the Fuse skill likely playing amajor role inTears of the Kingdom, allowing players to craft different variations of Bomb Arrows could be huge.

Tears of the Kingdom Could Open the Door For New Types of Craftable Bomb Arrows

Bomb Arrows have been around inThe Legend of Zeldaseries sinceLink’s Awakening, but were popularized by their presence inThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Both of these games allowed players to craft Bomb Arrows by having both Bombs and Arrows selected in item slots, which could then be used for a variety of situations from blowing up enemies to destroying parts of the environment to unlock new passages. Bomb Arrows returned inBreath of the Wild, but were now a single purchasable item rather than a craftable one since Bombs were locked behind aSheikah Slateability.

Craftable Bomb Arrows are primed to return in a big way after the gameplay showcase featured the player swapping Arrow attachments on the fly. Hopefully this means Bombs will return as an item that can be crafted into other items, as the gameplay potential of crafting various type of explosives could create some exciting scenarios. Add in the ability to quickly swap betweenarrow types inTears of the Kingdombased on items in one’s inventory, and Bomb Arrows could become a versatile, easy-to-use weapon in Link’s arsenal.

While being able to craft standard Bomb Arrows could end up being more convenient thanBreath of the Wild’s take on the item, to really recapture the awesome feeling of using Bomb Arrows inTwilight Princess,Tears of the Kingdomneeds to up the ante with what players can craft into explosives. For example, depending on how in-depth the Fuse ability allows crafting to go, players could potentially Fuse a Bomb to an Arrow, and then White Chuchu Jelly to that to create an Ice Arrow with an explosive radius.

The combinations for weapons like this seem almost endless, and the way the Fuse ability was discussed in the gameplay demonstration suggests that players will have a lot of creative freedom with this mechanic. As such, there is hope that Bomb Arrows could become one of the mostpowerful items inTears of the Kingdom, especially if they can be combined with other items to create even more powerful versions of the original item.Twilight Princessfans will recall the novelty of combining Bombs and Arrows in a psuedo-crafting mechanic rare to the series at the time, and it seems like this latest title could recapture that feeling in a whole new way.
