How to Begin Wanted: Hinox in TotK

Before Link can begin this quest, he must first complete one of the “Bring Peace” missions. The closest to Lookout Landing, will be “Bring Peace to Hyrule Field.”

Once Link has helped the Monster-Control Crew in the field, he will be able to speak with Gralens in the Emergency Shelter below Lookout Landing. The shelter is found by going down the large hole in the center of the area. Look for a group of individuals gathered around a map of Hyrule, Gralens will be standing at the end of the table. He will also have the tell-tale white exclamation point in a red bubble that signifies an available quest.

Speaking with Gralens will reveal multiple conversation options. Link will want to focus on the option centered around ‘Big Monsters.’ Picking that option will result in Gralens offering Link three choices: Stone Talus, Hinox, or Molduga. Selecting Hinox will begin the “Wanted: Hinox” quest.

Gralens will send Link to the Hinox located at Trilby Plain, which is found east of Hyrule Castle, and south of Eldin Canyon. Here, Link will find a base-level Hinox waiting in a small clearing (1285, 0911, 0028). Link fast-travel into theEldin Canyon Skyview Tower(1638, 1184, 0225), or the Ekochiu Shrine (1062, 1279,0045) to get as close as possible.

How to Beat the Hinox:

The base-level Hinoxdoesn’t pose much of a threat to a well-armored Link. There are some very basic strategies that Link can use to bring this fight to a swift end:

Aim for the Eye:This tactic will be the cornerstone of Link’s offense, as it can be used to essentially neutralize the Hinox. Using any bow, if Link hits the Hinox’s large eye, it will fall to the ground, completely vulnerable. With a powerful weapon, Link can erase most of the health bar. The Hinox will catch on to this strategy, eventually holding his arm up in an attempt to block the shot. Because of this, it’s better not to use this attack too many times in a row.

Sneaky Charge Attack: The Hinox will often be asleep when Link first approaches, leaving it open to this attack. Using crouch, Link can silently approach the beast, getting right up against its head or chest. Then, using a two-handed weapon, Link can use a charge attack to spin andhit the Hinox multiple times. Using a powerful weapon, or an attack-boosting meal or potion, Link can take out most or all of the enemy’s health before it even has a chance to respond.

Be careful when attempting to sneak up on a Hinox in a thunderstorm. Lightning strikes can wake the beast, turning the tables on Link extremely quickly.

Should Link find himself fighting this enemy with weak armor or weapons, make sure not to hover around its legs for any length of time. The best strategy, aside from an arrow to the eye, is to press the attack, then quickly back off. The Hinox will often grab trees to use as weapons, which can be extremely dangerous to a weakly-armored Link.
