Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duelhas unveiled the game’s newest banlist update set to take effect on March 1st, with eight different cards seeing their status changed as a result. Recent months have seen the meta of Konami’s popular online TCG shift wildly with powerful new cards and archetypes introduced to the game. Decks like Runick and Labrynth have seen universal success in the game withKonami recently adding the powerful Spright archetypein the newest Selection Pack. Now, the newest update to the game’s banlist will look to curb the power of one deck, in particular.
Konami has frequently introduced new banlist updates toYu-Gi-Oh Master Duelwith the goal of addressing problematic cards and decks. Each new month typically comes with an update to the banlist affecting a variety of cards, with powerful cards like “True King of All Calamities” and “Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds” being removed. The February banlist gave a preemptive hit to the Spright archetype leading up to its release, banning “Toadally Awesome” as well as “Union Carrier.” Now, Runick is the main target of Konami’s newest balance update.

Konami officially revealed the March 2023 banlist update on Tuesday evening with a handful of cards being moved around the Forbidden and Limited List, mainly singling out the Runick archetype. “Amano-Iwato” will be moved from three copies to one with thepowerful Monster cardlocking your opponent out of card effects, protecting Runick players from interruptions like “Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring.” Three other Runick Spells will be moved to Semi-Limited status with “Runick Destruction,” “Runick Slumber,” and “Runick Freezing Curses” all set to two copies.

While Runick decks are the primary focus of the update, four other cards also saw their status changed on the new banlist. “Fusion Destiny” will be upgraded to two copies with “Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer” being less prevalent inthe modernMaster Duelmeta. Several decks will also see cards freed from the banlist with the March update. Thunder Dragon and Orcust decks will benefit from a third copy of “Thunder Dragonroar” and “Orcust Harp Horror,” while “Genex Ally Birdman” will help to support Synchro-focused strategies.
The newest banlist update comes asYu-Gi-Oh Master Duel’s first anniversary celebration is in full swing. Last week saw the debut of two new Selection Packs, both bringing new cards and seeingclassic cards like “Change of Heart"and “Ancient Fairy Dragon” return to the game. Konami has also featured multiple events including the new anime-themed Legend Anthology Festival and a special bundle containing a Royal Rare Dark Magician.Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duelhas plenty to celebrate after a first year full of success for the digital TCG.
