As 2024 approaches, gamers can collectively start looking ahead to what the new year will bring in terms of new game releases. WithXboxand PlayStation almost always going head-to-head for AAA releases, the conversation around which is better typically comes down to what exclusive titles each console has. In the end, it’s all about the player’s preference and what games they want to play, but right now PlayStation’s 2024 lineup isn’t quite as good as that of Xbox.

The Xbox Leak and Its Implications
Therecent FTC leakrevealed that Xbox has a few tricks up its sleeve for the coming years, including some mysterious codenamed projects. Sony may well be sitting on a decent stack of interesting titles, but if it is, it’s a closely guarded secret. For now, there are some interesting known 2024 titles from both companies, but Xbox has the edge in terms of numbers, especially after the FTC leak which suggests thatIndiana Jonesand anOblivionremaster could be coming out in 2024.
PlayStation currently has some big-hitting titles lined up for 2024 likeFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthand Team Ninja’sRise of the Ronin. Other titles likeroad trip survival gamePacific Drive,squad-based shooterHelldivers 2, and possibly Insomniac Games’Marvel’sWolverinepad out the release schedule a little, but not by much. Otherwise,Splatoon-likeFoamstarswas recently announced at the September 2023 State of Play for an early 2024 release.

There are several games for each console that don’t have fixed release dates.Good examples for PlayStation areDeath Stranding 2andSilent Hill 2, but these might not arrive for another year or two. It is almost certain that Sony has a few more exclusives lined up for 2024, but for now it is looking a little thin compared to Xbox. Xbox has a fairly robust showing for 2024 so far, including titles likeSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Obsidian’sAvowed, and an interesting dark modern folktale-based game set in the American Deep South calledSouth of Midnightare all titles that will be exclusive to Xbox platforms.
Xbox Could Have A Bigger 2024 Than Expected
Like with PlayStation, there are some other Xbox games worth mentioning that don’t have a fixed release date as yet. Rare’s upcoming action-adventureEverwildis targeting a 2024 release, but this has not been confirmed. Steampunk RPGClockwork Revolutionfrom inXile Entertainment is also worth mentioning, but cannot be confirmed for 2024 either.State of Decay 3was announced in 2020 and could also be released sometime in 2024, but could just as easily arrive in 2025.
The recent leaks also revealed that there is a newDoomgame in development, and while it doesn’t seem like it would arrive until afterIndiana JonesandOblivion’s remaster,the possibility that it arrives in mid to late 2024 can’t be ruled out until more information is clarified. There is also the newFablegame that is being developed by Playground Games.Fableseems unlikely for 2024, but it’s hard to say for certain what Xbox has planned.
As things currently stand,Xboxis looking stronger than PlayStation for 2024 in terms of exclusive games. This can easily change in the coming months asThe Game Awards 2023 is still coming up, and usually there are some exciting announcements at this perennial event. There will also likely be some more announcements in the early months of 2024 from both companies.
