WWE has announced that John Cena will be joining the roster of playable golfers inPGA Tour 2K23soon. John Cena is getting a huge amount of attention in the media right now as the professional wrestler and actor prepares for his WrestleMania 39 match against Austin Theory.PGA Tour 2K23is capitalizing on the opportunity, partnering with WWE to bring Cena to the game as a guest golfer.PGA Tour 2K23players won’t have to wait long to play as Cena, either.PGA Tour 2K23launched in October 2022 across all major platforms. While reception for the new golf game has proven mixed, many golf fans are simply happy to have thePGA Tour 2Kseriesreturning since its last release in 2020. WhilePGA Tour 2K23doesn’t have a huge roster of playable golfers, it does have a mix of both professionals and celebrities. In an announcement made on 2K’s official Twitter account, it was confirmed that Cena will be playable in-game starting on April 7. The tweet makes a joke referencing Cena’s popular catchphrase, “you may’t see me,” saying thatPGA Tour 2K23fans didn’t see this announcement coming.
A screenshot of Cena in-game was also shared as part of the announcement. Cena is wearing red white and blue golf gear, a common color scheme that theWWE wrestlerhas used throughout the years. While thePGA Tour 2K23character does capture Cena’s facial features, it’s also fair to say that it may not fully capture Cena’s bulk. The professional wrestler is practically a bodybuilder, after all. PerhapsPGA Tour 2K23’s character creation isn’t built for muscles that big.
As noted, this is an especially opportune moment to make a WWE-related announcement.This weekend is WestleMania 39, WWE’s biggest event of the year. There will be two nights of major pro wrestling matches. John Cena’s match against Austin Theory is just one of those highly anticipated matches. Fans will be able to enjoy Cena’s match, and then celebrate the pro wrestler with golf in a week.
The John Cena playable character willunlock inPGA Tour 2K23on April 7. There’s no indication that the DLC will be premium or that it won’t be available across all supported platforms, but it’s possible that could change. Expect more information about Cena’s release inPGA Tour 2K23in the next week.
