Street Fighter 6has taken off with a running start, bringing Capcom’s flagship fighting franchise onto modern platforms. The game is a smash hit with casual and competitive players, and it has already received much more praise thanStreet Fighter 5did. While there are some imperfections and uncertainty about whereStreet Fighter 6’s meta will end up, the consensus is that it’s the most easy and fun way to enjoy traditional 2D fighting gameplay yet.

One of the big questions and complaints some players have is when new content will arrive.Street Fighter 6has implemented a rotating battle pass system, but there isn’t anything high-profile attached to it. More pressingly, most of the additional content found inStreet Fighter 6’s Deluxe and Ultimate editionshas not been released yet. The first four DLC characters coming to both the playable roster and World Tour mode as new Masters were already announced, but even the closest fighter is months away. However, there is a fast-approaching date where fans should hear more about the future ofStreet Fighter 6.

EVO Is A Special Time For Fighting Games

Among fighting game tournaments, there is none with more respect than the Evolution Championship Series. Known asEVO, this Las Vegas-based tournamenthas run almost every year for the past two decades. The one-two punch of a global pandemic and CEO misconduct allegations caused EVO 2020 to shut down entirely, but Sony Interactive Entertainment and an esports venture named RTS stepped in to purchase the tournament. While the 2021 digital-only event was messy and struggled to attract its normal viewership, the return to in-person with EVO 2022 was a great success.

Street Fighter 6will be making its Capcom Pro Tour debut at EVO 2023, with pools starting on August 4 and furtherSF6blocks occurring throughout the following weekend. Even though it has a solid chance of having the most entrance this year,Street Fighter 6is far from the only game at the event. Other major fighting games likeTekken 7andGuilty Gear Strive, and evenUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will joinStreet Fighteron EVO’s main stages. That’s not even getting into all the side tournaments and player setups, ensuring that there will always be something to play at EVO.

Street Fighter 6 Could Show A Lot At EVO’s Finals

However, there’s a lot more on offer than just EVO’s competitive aspects. Main EVO titles have been known to get announcements during the tournament weekend, often right before, after, or even during their top eight brackets. That is expected to continue this year, with obvious suspects beingMortal Kombat 1andTekken 8appearing during their predecessors' proceedings. But just becauseStreet Fighter 6just launched doesn’t mean it will come empty-handed.

Street Fighter 5has had a prolific history of announcing DLC plans during EVO. Sometimes, it’s gone as far as premiering trailers for an entire season’s worth of characters at once. WithStreet Fighter 6having already announced its first season of DLC, there’s a reason to believe it could do the same during its finals on August 6.Rashid is due for a summer 2023 release, so his appearance is all but guaranteed, but there’s also no better place to premiere trailers for A.K.I. and Ed. Even the spring 2024-bound Akuma could get a tease at the end of the trailer, regardless of how complete he is. Through exciting announcements like that,Street Fighter 6should keep its launch momentum going and please fans for years to come.

Street Fighter 6is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
