The firstMortal Kombatfilmis not exactly in the same league asApocalypse NoworCitizen Kane, but it does stand as one of the finest film adaptations of a video game. It is pure, unadulterated fun filled with fan service.Some still prefer it to the new film from 2021, though this new one also has its own strengths.

The original film came out in 1995, so we thought it a fun idea to see where all the actors are today and the last thing they performed in. It is a shameMortal Kombat: Annihilationfailed so hard, or else this cast might still be playing their roles from the first film.
9Christopher Lambert Still Appears In Many European Films
Though Christopher Lambert was born in New York, he was raised in Geneva and established his career in European cinema. Most western audiences recognize him fromHighlanderand asRaiden inMortal Kombat, but he never stopped playing in European films, mostly to French audiences. Christopher Lambert is also mostly blind without glasses and is unable to see without contacts, meaning any performance without glasses has him in scenes almost entirely without sight.
8Linden Ashby Was On Teen Wolf
Linden Ashby did a magnificent job as Johny Cage. Audiences knew the sequel headed in the wrong direction when the character died within ten minutes of the film starting.

Linden Ashby went on to work with directorPaul W.S. Anderson again inResident Evil: Extinction. From 2011 to 2017 he played a cop onTeen Wolf. Most recently he played a recurring role onTrinkets, a teen drama.
7Robin Shou Was In Sleeping Dogs
Robin Shou worked as an actor and stuntman in his native Hong Kong before starring asLiu Kang in the 1995Mortal Kombatadaptation. The starring roles slowed down after the sequel, but he still worked hard and showed up in a small role in theDead or Alivemovie. In 2012 he played a role inSleeping Dogs,an open-world crime drama. He has not starred in a feature film since 2013, but he is set to show up inDead Mule Suitcase.
6Bridgette Wilson Came Back To The Series
Before playing Sonya Blade,Bridgette Wilson won the Miss Teen USA pageant. In 2000 she married Pete Sampras, an actor and professional Golf Player. Her last role was in 2008’sPhantom Punch, a boxing drama. She also did some voice over for theMortal Kombatfilm pack forMortal Kombat 11, where most of the actors reprised their roles.Had Cameron Diaz not injured herself while training for the Sonya Blade role, Bridgette Wilson would not have won herself the best role of her career.
5Francois Petit Teaches Martial Arts In Spain
Sub-Zero has a small amount of screen timein the first movie because Francois Petit was also working behind the scenes for most of the production.

He only has three other acting credits to his name, the most recent of which is from 2010. Most recently it is said he moved to Spain where he continues to teach Martial arts. The fight between Liu Kang and Sub-Zero was probably the highlight of the film.
4Kenneth Edwards Never Appeared In Another Movie After Mortal Kombat
Kenneth Edwards plays Art Lean, Johnny Cage’s close friend. Curiously enough, this is an entirely original character with no connection to the game. The character unfortunately loses to Goro and is killed, which prompts Johnny Cage’s thirst for vengeance. Kenneth Edwards is a real martial artist and did not appear in any films afterwards. He focused his efforts on his craft teaches others in California.
3Trevor Goddard Was In JAG
Kano was originally of Japanese descent in the games. Only after watching Trevor Goddard’s scene stealing performance in the movie did the games also decide to make Kano Australian. From 1998 to 2001 the actor had a recurring role in the Naval drama JAG, which created a continuity that continues today with theNCISseries. Sadly, Trevor Goddard passed away in 2003 and his last onscreen feature film performance was in the firstPirates of the Caribbeanfilm.
2Talisa Soto Married Benjamin Bratt
Talisa Soto portrayedKitana in both olderMortal Kombatmovies, a rarity since most of the actors were recast forAnnihilation. BeforeMortal Kombather most notable role was in theJames Bond filmLicense to Kill. In the early 2000s she married Benjamin Bratt. He last film role was inLa Mission, which was directed by Benjamin Bratt’s brother. Kitana did not show up in the new film, though her fan is on display as an easter egg.
1Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa Became A Russian Citizen
Perhaps the most celebrated performance ofMortal Kombatis Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa’s turn as Shang Tsung. He reprised the role for a web series and then once again forMortal Kombat 11. The actor was born in Japan but established his career in the United States and lived there for many years. In 2016 however he converted converted to the Eastern Orthodox religion and became a Russian citizen. His other live-action roles includeMemoirs of a Geishaand a role in the Amazon seriesTheMan in the High Castle, based off the popular Philip K. Dick novel of the same name.
