Not only wereupdates toRogueandThe Lost Crownrevealed, but so was a whole new game in the form of aSands of Timeremake. 2003’sSands of Timewas already a landmark in the series, one that breathed new life into the IP in much the same wayThe Lost Crownhas. When it comes to the latter game, Ubisoft Forward also revealed a series of free updates that are already playable—including 22 new expert challenges. When it comes to the DLC, though, there are a few aspects worth speculating about.
Everything Fans Can Expect From Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown’s Mask Of Darkness DLC
One particularly important takeaway from this sampling is the fact thatThe Lost Crownwill be receiving paid DLCon top of free updates. This DLC, dubbedMask of Darkness, is shrouded in a fitting amount of mystery. Its trailer unveiled only a glimpse at a great mask, as well as a blue-eyed figure wreathed in shadow. After this quick teaser, a release window for September 2024 was dropped—cementing the tight-lipped nature of the trailer. Nonetheless, some expectations can be gleamed from further inspection into the DLC andPrince of Persiahistory.
The Radjen Connection
Fans ofThe Lost Crownwill immediately recognize the large mask in the trailer as being identical to the one worn by Radjen, a mysterious former assassin and member of the Immortals. What’s interesting is that in-game dialogue outright states that she died during the game’s events, yet this never happens onscreen. With this in mind,Mask of Darknessmay be an attempt to patch cut content back into the game, taking place during the main game’s events, or some type of resurrection/underworld plot.
Either way, the DLC will definitely relate to Radjen in some way, and it’s very likely that she’ll be a focal point. A cursory glance at discussions about the upcoming DLC will show how excited fans are at the possibility of anewThe Lost Crownboss battle—specifically a fight with Radjen. She’s not the only member of the Immortals to get themselves a boss fight, but her explicit aggression towards Sargon even before Vahram’s frame job made her seem like a surefire candidate for a violent confrontation. Considering her obsession with Vahram and the theories around her involvement with the main plot, she may end up being a bigger part of the picture than she first seemed. Therefore, though nothing is confirmed, there’s a decent chance that fans will finally face off with Radjen inMask of Darkness.
The Mask Wearer
TheMask of Darkness' trailershowed its eponymous mask twice, once in an enlarged form and once being worn by a figure with blue eyes. Cross-referencing both depictions reveals that both are, most likely, the same mask. However, the second depiction shows the mask moving as if skin; the brow moves separately as the head rises, more malleable than its metallic form would suggest.
Some ofThe Lost Crown’s fanssuspect that the DLC will contain another great evil from Persian mythology, just as the main game featured the malevolent Azhdaha—and the aforementioned detail around the mask may hint towards this. Perhaps Radjen’s mask was made in the image of a more powerful spirit—or the latter mask could reflect some undead form of Radjen, one where her skin takes on the character of the mask she wore in life.
