Terraria’s 1.4 update, Journey’s End, has brought aton of new content to the game, and many fans are finding things they’ve never seen before. Since the update, non-hostile fairies will sometimes appear before the player, but they quickly fly off and disappear. Here’s how best to use these friendly fey.
Should the player follow the fairy, it will lead them to a nearby source of treasure. The exact specifics on what each of the three fairies inTerrariado different from each other is as of yet unknown, but all three are beneficial and can help the player get some neat items.

Fairies come in three colors, green, pink, or blue (possibly ahomage toSleeping Beauty’s Flora, Fauna, and Meriweather), but there doesn’t seem to be any distinction between the three other than cosmetics. That said, some players are claiming to notice patterns in the types of treasure fairies are drawn to, but that isn’t confirmed or tested yet.
When a fairy first appears, it will fly circles around the player for a brief moment before flying off in search of treasure. At this point, the player should follow it and it will eventually lead them to a valuable piece of treasure. This can be in the form of treasure chests, hearts, and other valuables, and can beespecially useful early on in a game. As stated above, some players are beginning to notice patterns in the types of treasure fairies lead to. It may be that pink fairies are more likely to point towards hearts, while blue fairies favor treasure. This isn’t exclusive, however, as there have been reports of blue fairies leading to hearts as well.
Other players hypothesize that the fairies are all the same, but they lead the player to the closest high value treasure. More testing will need to be done before this can be said for certain. Beyond finding treasure, fairies have another, albeit more sinister purpose. If the player uses a bug net, they can capture a fairy andput it in a jar like any other bug. At this point, the fairy jar becomes a cosmetic item, and can be displayed.
What makes that particularly upsetting is that the bestiary clearly states that the fairies are small humanoids, and they likely possess intelligence and sentience comparable to humans. Each of the three colors can be captured and displayed, so while it may look nice, it’s stillpretty messed up.
