SinceUndertalewas released in 2015, it has grown into a gaming icon and cultural phenomenon. Six years on, an impressive new addition to the officialUndertaleNendodroid line still manages to bring excitement to many across the internet.
Undertaleis marketed as “the friendly RPG where no-one has to die,” and its successspawned a sequel calledDeltarune. Both games offer a unique brand of humor coupled with memorable and iconic characters, meaning that physical models of the cast was an inevitable step for merchandise outlets.

Dolls and figurines of beloved characters from the retro-styled RPG are something of a collector’s item, and rumors ofSans and Papyrus have persisted since September 2021. Now the beloved skeleton brothers have been confirmed to join the collection alongside the strong, yet sweet Undyne. The Sans and Papyrus figurines will also be painted for the first time, compared to their first unveiling back in December which only offered unpainted prototypes. The “humerus” skeletons will be in their respective blue and orange outfits, while the Undyne prototype displays her fearsome smirk and armor with customized attachable helmet. The trio is among some fan favorites introduced inUndertale, and even having little cameos inDeltaruneto delight long-time fans.
The influence that Toby Fox’s games have had in popular culture has been unexpected. Many were surprised that the popular music track"Megalovania" was played for Pope Francisat the start of 2022, and a physical copy ofUndertalebeing given to him as a gift as a way to promote messages like determination and friendship which are prominently featured throughout. These themes help to promote unity, and the multiple paths that players can take depending on their play style, leaves a lasting impact long after completion.
The worldwide notoriety thatUndertalegained during its heyday in 2015 to 2017 did cause some internet backlash due to the seemingly unstoppable hype. Six years on, fans and non-fans alike have grown to respect the game’s individual merits, such as its unforgettable fourth wall breaks andrepresentation for LGBT+ inclusivity in the gaming scene. The soundtrack is another strong element that many players praise, with a lot of fan-made parodies and covers celebrating their love for Toby Fox’s musical creations.
Official prices for the Nendoroids haven’t yet been announced, but Goodsmile will likely be updating its website and social media feeds to keep fans and collectors in the loop as soon as the figurines go on sale.
