It feels as though it’s been ages since the world saw a newUnchartedgame. With 2017’sLost Legacybeing the last installment in the series, and serving as a sort of epilogue, there has been hope on the horizon for apossibleUncharted 5or at least some sort of spin-off. Sadly, it looks as though dreams of a new game are still being crushed by bad news.

Rumors began to speculate recently that anUnchartedspin-off title may have been in development, with Bend Studio at the helm and Naughty Dog overseeing the project. However, a recent report indicates that this may now not be going ahead. Word came from Bloomberg who said that there wasn’t much of a game to begin with anyway, and it was likely that there may not have been anUnchartedspin-off in the first place.

This news came about during a YouTube video fromThe MinnMax Showin which Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier spoke about the proposedUnchartedproject. In his segment on the show, he was asked whether he knew about the project and where it was currently at, to which he said he wasn’t even sure it was a thing yet and that it will likely just “disappear,” which suggests that either it’s been cancelled or it never really took off from the initial idea/pitch stage. The full video is below with Schreier’s answer to the question starting at around the 31-minute mark.

This all came about afterBend Studio pitched an idea for aDays Gonesequel, which was unfortunately declined by Sony. Instead, Bend Studio was put on another project which was looking like it could have been the aforementionedUnchartedspin-off, but was allegedly too much to take and the studio asked to be taken off the project in the end.

All of this suggests that a newUnchartedgame is not going to be announced for a good while, and it means the series is possibly on a hiatus for now, at least in terms of the games. Fans still havetheUnchartedmovieto look forward to. Starring Tom Holland as the screen version of Nathan Drake, the adaptation was originally scheduled for a release in 2021, but was pushed back and is now looking to be released in February 2022. It could potentially capture the essence of the original games. If nothing else, it will be a nice stop gap while fans wait for another game to be announced.
