Tom Holland was just a kid when Sam Raimi’s firstSpider-Manmovie came out, yet ever since he became Peter Parker the actor has never hidden his admiration for the work done by his predecessors. In fact, Holland’s thought enough about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to know what he loves the most.
Both Maguire and Garfield managed to bring unique characteristics to theSpider-Manrole, with the former ushering in what would become the superhero movie genre, albeit with very different films from the ones Holland stars in nowadays. Meanwhile,Garfield’s time as Spider-Manwas a far more complicated affair that left the actor feeling disappointed.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to love in all those movies, as Holland explained during an interview with Jake’s Takes. Joined by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, Holland noted that his favorite part about the Garfield era was actually the slightly controversial skateboarding skills his Peter had. On the other hand, Holland doesn’t even have to think twice to tell Jake his favorite moment from the Maguire films is the finalbattle with the Green Goblin.
As Holland explains, his MCUSpider-Manmisses out on a lot of the realism Maguire had with his ripped suits and the beat-up look he ended up having by the end of his movies. Of course, this is all thanks tothe fancy Stark tech in the Spider-Man suitsfor Holland’s Peter Parker. Still, when it comes to real-life issues, Holland is not shy to remind everyone that playing Spider-Man involves a lot of sweating one doesn’t get to see on screen.
Naturally, withNo Way Homejust over a week away from its worldwide premiere, it’s impossible that the cast could skip questions regarding the potential involvement of the previous Spider-Menin a multiversal plot, a topic that’s been on fans’ minds ever sinceFar From Home. Whether or not Holland signs on tostay for anotherSpider-Mantrilogy, he’ll get to see this chapter through, a luxury that Maguire and Garfield were deprived of.
So far,Spider-Man: No Way Homeis gearing upto be the biggest movie of the post-pandemic era by quite a margin, with a $200 million opening weekend forecast that would make James Bond and Dominic Toretto blush.
