WithSpider-Man: No Way Homeresonating as much as it did because of the nostalgia factor, it should not surprise anyone that we’re going to get more of Tobey Maguire over the coming years. So, not too long after his surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s now been cast in Damien Chazelle’s next movie titledBabylon.

Maguire also will serve as executive producer alongside Chazelle, who has steadily made a name for himself in Hollywood since the 2010s. Chazelle is best known for his directorial work inWhiplash,La La Land, andFirst Man. Maguire does not have many acting credits to his name since participating inthe originalSpider-Mantrilogyin the 2000s, but he does have plenty of producer credits since then, which includeRock of Ages,The 5th Wave, and most recently, the Bob Odenkirk-led action movieNobody.

While Maguire’s casting inBabylonhas been known, it was the newly screenedfootage shown at CinemaCon that confirmed he was playing legendary silent film actor Charlie Chaplin. In so doing, Maguire joins a cast that hasthe likes of Brad Pittand Margot Robbie, who will be playing John Gilbert and Clara Bow respectively, as well as Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Flea, Max Minghella, and Eric Roberts, among others. TheParamountfilm centers around the golden age of filmmaking in the 1920s.

With the star power of acting powerhouses like Pitt and Robbie, along with the filmmaking genius of Chazelle, it might be one of the most obvious calls of 2022 to predict that this film is going to be a critical hit. Especially now that Hollywood has brought in a whole new wave of biographical dramas over the past half-decade or so. When it gets released, this may very well further resurrect Maguire’s name as a movie star in Hollywood.

It is pretty odd how Maguire seemingly fell off the face of the earth after the originalSpider-Mancinematic trilogy concluded back in 2007. Even if his role as the original theatrical Spider-Man/Peter Parker is what he’s best known for as an actor, he was in multiple well-received movies before being cast as the iconic wall-crawler. Maguire was cast as the lead in movies likePleasantville,The Cider House Rules, andWonder Boysin the late-1990s/early-2000s, which made him a big name. So it’s pretty odd that he hasn’t been in that many movies since Sony scrapped theSam RaimiSpider-Mantrilogy.

That’s why it’s so nice to see him back and acting in more movies. Maguire was not a godsend when he starred in movies, but he proved he was a capable leading man in multiple quality films. So hopefully this is only the start of his comeback as an actor. Between playing avital role inSpider-Man: No Way Homeand being involved in this upcoming biopic with proven commodities, it appears Maguire has a plan set in motion to re-establish himself as a big name in show business.
