Having become a celebration of all things horror,Dead by Daylighthas played host to an impressive number of high-profile collaborations with characters like Freddy Kreuger, Michael Myers, Ghostface, Chucky, and a whole lot more over its seven years since launch.

ThoughAlan Wakebecame a cult classic after it was released in 2010, it had laid dormant for over a decade until October 2023, when Remedy Entertainment finally released its long awaited sequel.Alan Wake 2wowed critics and audiences alike with its elusive investigative narrative, new co-protagonist Saga Anderson, its noir-soaked NYC setting, and its sharp visual design. It very quickly became one of the most beloved games of last year, and later left the 2023 Game Awards with three wins for Best Narrative, Art Direction, and Game Design.Hot off the success ofAlan Wake 2, Behaviour Interactive recently put out a small teaser showing a flickering flashlight and bloodied pages, which lead to heavy speculation of Alan Wake’s possible arrival inDead by Daylight.

Now, Behaviour Interactivehas confirmed that Remedy’s tortured fiction writer, Alan Wake, is indeedcoming toDead by Daylightas the game’s newest Survivor. In a 90-second cinematic trailer featuring Alan frantically typing in his writer’s room before being beckoned outside to find a humming generator,Dead by Daylightconfirmed Wake’s arrival for January 30. The trailer shows Alan in his sharp black suit and longer hair fromAlan Wake 2, playing off the huge success of the sequel.

Dead by Daylighthas also released a blog post highlighting Alan Wake’s Survivor perks. Champion of Light, named afterAlan Wake 2’s hit in-game musical performance by the Old Gods of Asgard, gives players 50% Haste while shining Wake’s iconic flashlight. In the spirit ofAlan WakeandAlan Wake 2’s streetlamp safe spots, which provide players a moment of respite to resupply, Boon: Illumination lets Wake bless a Totem, highlighting nearby chests and generators for himself and fellow survivors in a 24-meter radius.

While it’ll be a couple more weeks before Alan Wake writes himself intoDead by Daylight, it’s interesting to ponder the possibility ofother characters fromAlan Wake 2joining him inDead by Daylight’s horror universe. Saga Anderson or Alex Casey could make for great Survivors, andAlan Wake’s Pacific Northwest setting of Bright Falls would be an excellent choice for a newDead by Daylightmap. Time will tell whetherDead by Daylightwill incorporate more fromAlan Wakein the future. For now, fans can look forward to Alan coming to the game later this month.
