The Witcherwas released late in 2019, and it became popular right away. Of course, it is based on a series of books, not to mention the hit video game series. Yet there’s also something about this story that is definitely appealing to a wider audience, outside of just the fans of the books and games. Fans enjoy the tale of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allan).
The WitcherSeason 2 has the potential to beeven better than the first. It might show a different side to all three protagonists, butespecially Geralt and Ciri. Their relationship has been built up sincethe beginning of the story. They are each other’s destiny, after all. This leads some to wonder: will Geralt and Ciri’s relationship inThe WitcherSeason 2 satisfy fans?

After all the build-up, many are certainly hoping it will. The WitcherSeason 2 has a big job to do,yet so did season 1.The writers ofThe Witcherseem to be up to the task of taking viewers on this fantastical journey. Although,Geralt and Ciri’s relationshipwill need to be done right after all of the anticipation. It’s a delicate balance and one that would be daunting for any writer’s room.

However, fans probably don’t need to worry. Not including the confusing timeline, which wasthere for a reason, season 1 was pretty good with its characters and plots. Since both Geralt and Ciri are main characters inThe WitcherSeason 2, the writers must know that they have a lot to live up to. This includes the ideas of Geralt and Ciri’s relationship fans of the books and games have. Fortunately, there are some promising signs.
To understand Geralt and Ciri’s relationship, it is crucial to understand what led them here. Geralt spent most of season 1 running away from his destiny while Ciri was running towards it. Geralt, in Netflix’s version of events, didn’t necessarily want a child of surprise. Ciri has gotten used to taking care of herself. So there’s bound to be some friction between them. The WitcherSeason 2 will likely show that friction. Geralt won’t knowhow to act with Ciri. Ciri might not take kindly to an overprotective Geralt. There will be tension, but it isn’t likely to stay that way. In an interview withTV Guide, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich discusses the relationship.
According to her, the books skip through a lot of timeafter Geralt and Ciri’s meeting. What she and the writers ofThe WitcherSeason 2 found, however, is that they “didn’t actually want to skip over those first months of them getting to know each other.” Part of the fun of writing the show is taking two strangers who have reluctantly accepted each other and watching them grow together. And there will definitely be growth. Though not much has been shown fromThe WitcherSeason 2 so far,the teasers that have been releasedseem to suggest a bond between the two characters. Therefore, it seems possible that fans will be satisfied with Geralt and Ciri’s relationship inThe WitcherSeason 2. It will grow organically, and fans will get to see it grow. What could be more satisfying than that?
The WitcherSeason 2 willalso include other Witcherssince Geralt will be taking Ciri to Kaer Morhen. These other Witchers might either help or hurtGeralt and Ciri’s relationship. But in the end, Geralt and Ciri are going to end up closer. The WitcherSeason 2, if it’s anything like season 1, will be great at developing all of its characters.Even the smallest secondary character will be important. And Ciri and Geralt are the main characters so just think of all the development they’ll get. Their relationship will likely be a major focus ofThe WitcherSeason 2.Season 2 will also feature Nenneke, a priestess who might also help Geralt and Ciri. In the books, she is often a voice of reason for Geralt. Therefore, she might help him and Ciri grow closer.
Of course, fans will have to wait and see what happens inThe WitcherSeason 2. However, things certainly look promising. Not every fan will be interested in Geralt and Ciri’s relationship. And it might not satisfy everyone. That would not be easy.Yet Geralt and Ciri’s relationshipseems like it’ll be a treat for fans. And after all the build-up, that would definitely be amazing. Seeing these two intriguing characters develop a bond sounds great. Geralt and Ciri both definitely deserve to have good people in their lives. And they could be one of those people for each other.
The WitcherSeason 2, if it’s done well, will give a well-written adoptive parent-child relationship. And that is what Geralt and Ciri are meant to be. Fans will definitely be rooting for the two of them to be something special. So hopefully, the writers will give them the respect they deserve.
