The most recent main entry in theWitcherseries was released in 2015, but fans will have to wait until after its 10th anniversary before the sequel is released.

Fans have been clamoring for a sequel since the thirdWitchergame,Wild Hunt, which was met with critical acclaim across the board. In March 2022, a sequel was announced by publisher CD Projekt Red with the game using Unreal Engine 5. Adam Kicinski, President of CD Projekt Red, announced that therewouldn’t just be a fourthWitchergame, but rather an entirely new trilogy. The first game of the new trilogy is working under the codenamePolaris, and Kicinski stated that the release wouldn’t be until 2025 at the very earliest. The long wait is because CDPR is working on developing the Unreal Engine 5 technology to make it work with the game series.

With each newWitchergame, Kicinski feels it will take three years, meaning that the fourth installment is expected around late 2025, with the fifth in 2028 and the sixth in 2031. Those are rough estimates at the moment, though, depending on the game engine’s development over the next year or so. As for howThe Witcher 4will release, don’t expect it to be tied to just the Epic Games launcher. CDPR CTO Pawel Zawodny said that while the two parties are working together, the game won’t be part of an exclusive arrangement. In addition to moreWitchergames, the publisher announced that there would be aCyberpunk 2077sequeland a new intellectual property codenamedHadarthat will be made from scratch, but without many details given.

Fans ofThe Witcherseries can also expect two more games outside of the new trilogy. CD Projekt Red announced that The Molasses Flood studio is creating their own game that focuses more on aWitchermultiplayerwhile an unnamed developer will be working on aWitchergame that’s expected to be as lengthy and filled with as much content as the main entries into the series. Overall, this is welcome news for fans who thought that the adventures of Geralt had come to an end after CD Projekt Red announced in 2017 that he was unlikely to return.

All in all, theWitcherseries has been around for 15 years and sold more than 50 million copies across all releases. The main series entries have proven to be the most popular, though the six spin-offs includingGwenthave proven to be popular on their own, as well.
