Call of Duty: Vanguardhas finally launched, and players have quickly realized that there will be plenty to grind for in this year’s entry of the long running series. This time around, players have a leveling system for theirnew Operatorsthat allows them to unlock quips, highlight intros, and outfits. Traditional player leveling returns, as do weapon levels. As players rank up their guns, they will unlock camo challenges, and this year’s lineup is certainly interesting.
As is the case with otherCall of Dutygames,Call of Duty: Vanguardfeatures a massive set of camos to acquire for each and every weapon. Zombies and multiplayer have their own lineups, too, allowing gamers to unlock different mastery camos for each mode. However, while there are some great changes made to this year’s camo system, there are also some noticeable problems with the process.

The Pros: Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Camo Coverage And Launcher Challenges
One of the biggest criticisms ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s camos was the poor coverage, a complaint that was certainly understandable due to how little of the weapons were actually covered. Weapons like the M60 would be left mostly the same, for example, withDark Aether only covering the part of the weaponthat players never see in first person view. As such, the reward felt pointless, with many feeling that the camo hunt was not worth it since it was hard to show off their accomplishment.
Fortunately, there will be no need for players to shareGold camo rework conceptsthis year, asCall of Duty: Vanguardfeatures excellent camo coverage for its weaponry. Players will quickly notice that their weapon skin of choice is applied all over their weapon, covering attachments that would have been left untouched in 2020’sCall of Dutytitle. Camo patterns like Diamond even cover the metal parts of the gun, with some chrome used alongside the Diamond studs.

Aside from the excellent coverage, one of the most frustrating aspects ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s camo grindhas been adjusted. Players no longer need to get double kills with launchers, something that should make the category a lot less frustrating to deal with. The ground killstreak challenge also allows players to destroy enemy equipment, which should certainly speed up the process. With multiple launchers available to players, simplifying these challenges was a wise decision on the part of Sledgehammer Games.
The Cons: Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Challenge Bug And Point Blank Kills
Unfortunately, it is not all good news, as an extremely frustratingCall of Duty: Vanguardcamo bugis currently plaguing the game. Camo progress is not tracking for many players, with gamers not seeing any change despite meeting the requirements for several matches in a row. WhileCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warboth dealt with similar problems, and Sledgehammer Games will likely fix the issue soon, players being unable to start the camo grind on day one is certainly disappointing.
While it is a matter of time before this tracking issue is fixed, it is unclear if a certain challenges will be adjusted at all.Call of Duty: Vanguard’s point blank challengesare quickly coming under fire from the community. While it is fair enough to ask players for 100 point blank kills on SMGs and Assault Rifles, the fact that players need to complete this same task for Sniper Rifles and Marksman Rifles is absurd. Given how hard it could be to get into point blank range normally, asking players to do so with Sniper Rifles is a step too far in the eyes of many. As such, hopefully this unforgiving challenge is adjusted based on player feedback, as it joins the tracking bug as one of the only flaws with this year’s lineup of weapon skins.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
