The existence of anext-gen version ofThe Outer Worldswas first rumored in October of last year, but further news on the topic was silent until today. Obsidian has had a lot on its plate recently. The company releasedPentimentlate last year, and the development ofAvowedremains ongoing. With theSpacer’s Choice EditionandThe Outer Worlds 2, players could be forgiven for wondering if Obsidian has bitten off more than it can chew over the last few years. Nevertheless, the rate that the company is able to put out quality titles remains impressive.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Editionwas revealed by Obsidian, and showed off multiple improvements to the original. The most obvious change is the improved visuals, with a lighting engine that has clearly seen a big upgrade. The game also promises improved performance and additional animations, which may be more subtle changes. TheSpacer’s Choice Editionwill also be raising the game’s level cap, which will allow for even more role-playing opportunities to arise from its branching skill tree.The Outer Worlds' perks and skill treereceived praise upon release, with it resembling many of the perk systems found in classic RPGs.
Players who already ownThe Outer Worldsand its two DLC packs,Murder on EridanosandPeril on Gorgon, will be able to upgrade to theSpacer’s Choice Editionfor a reduced purchase price, although it hasn’t been made clear what that price will be when the game launches on March 7. Players will also be limited to one reduced-price upgrade per account, on whatever platform that may be.
The move could be due to upcoming news onThe Outer Worlds 2. Information on the sequel has been quiet for a while now, and heading into 2023 it could be the perfect time to start revealing more about the long-awaited title. While the wait for news continues, fans will continue to speculate on what they think the sequel should entail, with some believingThe Outer Worlds 2could improve its companions. While the companions were considered a strong element of the original, the complete lack of romance options was a disappointment to players, and it could be a great place to start for Obsidian to improve the companions.
