All eyes have been on Square Enix lately, for the seemingly odd deal it struck withEmbracer Group, selling it Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and more. But, nonetheless, Square Enix is continuing its work with a plethora of games in development. One fans have been waiting to hear about isFinal Fantasy 16.
SinceFinal Fantasy 16’s initial reveal, the developer has been quiet. No doubt the pandemic took its toll on development, but fans were promised more information this spring. With spring here, it seems like it could be any day now that fans learn more, and according toFinal Fantasy 16producer Yoshi-P, a new trailer is ready and waiting in the wings.

Yoshi-P appeared on a recentNieR Re[in]carnationstream and spoke briefly aboutFinal Fantasy 16. He mentioned that the dev team has spent a long time polishing the game and will continue to do so until release, also adding that the game is pretty much complete. This lines up with previous comments aboutFinal Fantasy 16’s development status, but it also poses the question of why fans haven’t learned more yet.
Well, that information is ready. Yoshi-P confirmed that the nextFinal Fantasy 16trailer is done, but there’s a slight catch. Unspecified factors have caused this trailer’s release to be delayed, meaning that it was likely supposed to be out already. This could be something like aPlayStation State of Play planbeing worked on or minor issues in the communication chain, but it’s ready. It’s just a matter of releasing it.
Despite this delay, and to be clear, it seems as if the trailer was already delayed and not that it will be delayed, Yoshi-P does believe that thisFinal Fantasy 16trailer will release “soon.” All of these comments bode well for the game. While marketing and development status do not always exactly coincide, Yoshi-P makes it sound like the game is right at the end of its development cycle, and it’s going to start that road to release soon.
This new trailer could very well featureFinal Fantasy 16’s release date, and the wording could very well suggest it’s a 2022 release. There are a ton of hoops in game development though, so fans will just have to wait for this trailer for any confirmation. It seems safe to say, though, that “soon” can’t come soon enough.
