The Elder Scrolls Onlinehas gone above and beyond what most MMO fans have wanted from the game. Whereas individualThe Elder Scrollsgames are limited to one region, Bethesda Software has robustly expanded MMO with a diverse range of DLC exploring lands including Morrowind, Elsweyr, and the Blackwood. Bethesda has shown no signs of slowing, either. A new teaser released forThe Elder Scrolls Onlinehints at where the MMO will take adventurers in 2022 and, needless to say, the borders ofThe Elder Scrolls Onlinecontinue to expand rapidly.

Bethesda’s new trailerforThe Elder Scrolls Onlinemaintains the high expectations kept for its cinematic trailers. Players are shown a boat crossing a body of water to a new, impressively-sized city. What’s then shown is an armored soldier stepping out onto a balcony area, only to see a tidal wave out beyond the stone parapet. Several ships even sat atop the huge wave, though the armored soldier seemed rather nonplussed at the situation.

The trailer is a teaser, to be clear. It’s not intended to confirm any official details regardingThe Elder Scrolls Online’s next expansion, though the clues are there forElder Scrollsfans to theorycraft with. As for the official announcement, that will come on Thursday, January 27, at 3:00 PM ET via the official Bethesda Twitch channel. The announcement will be for the nextThe Elder Scrolls Onlinestory Chapter, as well asDLCs planned for 2022.

While Bethesda won’t say it just yet,Elder Scrollsfansbelieve they’ve already figured out where the next expansion forThe Elder Scrolls Onlinewill go. The map shown early in the trailer is believed to be of the Abecean Sea, which lies to the west of Tamriel just north of Summerset. Additionally, the armor worn by the soldier in the trailer implies him to be a Breton, who hail from High Rock. As such, some believe the new content will take place on a Breton-controlled island off the coast of Hammerfell or Summerset.

Alternatively, some believe the island destination is on the completely opposite side of the Tamriel, on the islands halfway across the ocean towardAkavir. There are three large islands here named Esroniet, Ynslea, and Cathnoquey. The city shown in the trailer could then be Black Harbor on Esroniet. It’s a great setting for ship warfare, both as a story mechanism or via a new gameplay system.

Needless to say, it’s an exciting time forThe Elder Scrolls Onlineplayers. A new year brings with it new destinations forThe Elder Scrolls Onlineplayers to explore and adventure through. All Bethesda is asking is for players to be patient and wait less than a month before a full unveiling will be done.

The Elder Scrolls Onlineis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
