Summary
Despite the rumors thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will be set in Hammerfell, the setting for the nextThe Elder Scrollsgame hasn’t been confirmed by Bethesda. There is a possibility thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will be set in a single province, as in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, but other games inThe Elder Scrollshave been set in multiple provinces. While it’s unlikely thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will be set in every province in Tamriel, two or three would be likely if it is set in more than one. If it is set in just one province, Bethesda will have to decide between the narrative importance of the province, or visual impact.
The Elder Scrolls 6has several options for its setting, and previous games inThe Elder Scrollsseries could provide clues about which direction Bethesda will take. While Hammerfell is a massive province, there is a chance thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will only take place in a small region of the province, as inThe Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

Finding a Setting For The Elder Scrolls 6
Hammerfell itself is a diverse province with many different areas. Deciding on exactly where to set important narrative events and storylines will be more difficult in Hammerfell than it was inSkyrimorOblivion. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowindis set just on the island of Vvardenfell, instead of the entire province of Morrowind, and something like that might be an option forThe Elder Scrolls 6. If so, Bethesda needs to decide which location of Hammerfell is the best forThe Elder Scrolls 6’s setting.
There are a number of locations that are options for the setting ofThe Elder Scrolls 6. If the plot ofThe Elder Scrolls 6is focused on the war with the Aldmeri Dominion, focusing on the southern regions, including Stros M’Kai would be the best option. This region was depicted inThe Elder Scrolls Online, and also includes the city of Abah’s Landing, which was featured inThe Elder Scrolls Onlineadd-on contentThieves Guild, which is an opportunity to expand on the guild in region and time period.

Settings Outside Hammerfell That Could Be the Setting For The Elder Scrolls 6
The Option of High Rock
However, the Alik’r Desert is one of the most famous regions in Tamriel, and not depicting it when setting a game in Hammerfell would be a massive waste. The northern part of the country also borders High Rock, which hasn’t been depicted inThe Elder Scrollsmain series sinceThe Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. IfThe Elder Scrolls 6only depicts thenorthern regions of Hammerfell, it could also extend to depicting High Rockas well.
However, because Hammerfell seceded from the Empire, that’s unlikely to be the case, and if High Rock is depicted, it’ll be on its own and without Hammerfell. High Rock’s dramatic landscape and famous cities could make for a visual masterpiece that hasn’t been seen yet inThe Elder Scrolls. However, this would mean abandoning resolving the Aldmeri Dominion plot, and instead taking up another narrative in its stead. High Rock also doesn’t have as rich a history and lore as Hammerfell, such as thehistory of the Dwemer, whose ruins are scattered all over Hammerfell.
