WhenThe Day Beforewas first announced, it became themost wishlisted game on Steam. The game began its early access phase on December 7 and has received an overwhelmingly negative score on Steam based on feedback from over 9,000 users. These poor reviews are derived from players feeling like the game description and trailers don’t match its gameplay. However, although it has such a low rating on Steam, gamers continue to purchase the post-apocalyptic title. As one player was exploring an urban area ofThe Day Before, they encountered an NPC with a peculiar bug impacting it.
Twitch streamer HollyRex was recently playingThe Day Beforewhen she clipped a bugged NPC. The video begins with the player running down a city street from an alarm that she may have triggered beforehand. Suddenly, the video shows an NPC with an extremely big head visible in the distance. The Twitch streamer then shoots the NPC, who reacts by getting even larger. As the monstrous NPC comes toward the player, its legs become giant blobs that dwarf the rest of its body. The NPC then rounds a corner and shrinks back to normal size before disappearing into a nearby building.
Given the NPC’s terrifying form, some players have compared it to a monster fromThe Mist. While the NPC reacted to the player’s gunshot, the alarm could’ve caused a completely different interaction. In the post-apocalyptic setting, alarms like the one in the intro to HollyRex’s clip can have deadly consequences. Sharing some similarities withState of Decay 2andDying Light 2, the alarm can summon infected enemies that swarm players. The gamer was likely scavenging the area for supplies that can be handed toThe Day Before’s Woodberry survivors, and these supplies can be exchanged for currency that is used to purchase items that aren’t readily available in the open world.
Given the shakiness of this NPC as it bugged out, there may be a few things going wrong with its programming. ConsideringThe Day Beforeearly access began recently, some of the issues will hopefully be fixed in the future. With developer Fntastic having experience regularly updatingPropnight, its latest release may also get many post-release patches.
