A PlayStationVRtutorial quickly turned into one of the best experiences for Sony’s headset. The player is the camera for a planet wandering platforming game.
They have to look around to find the right path forward and secrets in the world. It works surprisingly well for the technology and makes Astro Bot a platformer like no other.

Dead Cellsis an action-heavyplatformerwhere the player works through twelve difficult, procedurally generated levels. The key is to gather enough upgrades and items to survive each level. That means dying and dying a lot.
That is until the player is powerful enough to slaughter any enemy in their path. The levels and placement of enemy change with every run keeping players on their toes the whole time.

7Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice- 91, User Score 8.0
From Software followed the Souls formula for their newest IP. A shinobi’s quest for revenge takes him on a difficult path of blood and stabbing. The combat is as difficult and rewarding as other From Software games, which is what elevated Sekiro to game of the year status.

The game was criticized by some for being too difficult without any settings to make it easier. For a majority of people though, the difficulty is the best part of the game.
6Disco Elysium: 91, User Score 8.4
Disco Elysiumis one of the best games of this generation that never got the limelight it deserved. The PC exclusiverole-playinggame follows a disgruntled detective who is tasked with solving a murder in a town recovering from war.
The text-based adventure has the player arguing with several voices inside the detective’s head, which can lead to a series of different narrative outcomes.

5What Remains Of Edith Finch: 92, User Score 7.2
The player, the last Finch alive, walks through a forest and finds a house with several rooms rising into the sky. The inhabitants of that house were cursed and the player explores each of their deaths. Every family member brings a different type of gameplay, which correlates to their personality or situation.
One sequence has players working in a fish factory while another has the player flying a kite. These may seem mundane but they each tell a compelling, emotional story.

Undertalefollows a child that falls underground and his attempt to get back to the surface. It’s an RPG where the player has the opportunity to avoid conflict entirely and has a wide array of player choice. It focuses on smart combat and meaningful storytelling.
