Microsoft previewed a variety of games spanning across different genres during today’s Xbox Games Showcase livestream event, from emotional episodic journies to dark Nordic adventures. One multiplayer puzzle that stood out in the bunch is the upcomingTetris Effect: Connected.
Since its release way back in the 80s,Tetrishas seen a number of variants, innovating the game in many different aspects while keeping true to the game’s main puzzle tactics of lining differently shaped pieces as efficiently as possible. One of these many popular modern versions is none other thanTetris Effect.

Originallyexclusively released for the PS4back in 2018,Tetris Effectchanges up the original tile-matching gameTetrisby crossing over to the world of rhythm-gaming. Players are tasked with piecing blocks,also known as tetrominos, together to the beat of electronic music. A new “zone” mechanic allows players to also place several blocks at once, which allows them to clear over sixteen lines simultaneously while listening to trance music. The game also features beautiful graphics to compliment the music.
And soon, players will get the chance to connect themselves to other players with the addition of the multiplayer expansion entitledTetris Effect: Connected. The most notable of the newest feature includes a co-op version to enable friends to collaborate and communicate effectively, as well as a competitive multiplayer to pit players against each other. Up to three players can team up or compete with one another locally or over the internet. Computer-controlled players will also be an option.
Tetris Effectrecently jumped into the VR realmby releasing for the Oculus Quest back in May, but the puzzle title had already been made available for VR via the Epic Games Store supported by PS4 and PC, so it’s not a surprise to see it jump to another virtual reality platform.
After garnering high reviews from critics and named Game of the Year by several publications, the multiplayer expansion will release in time for the holiday season to be added to theXbox Series X lineupthat many players are getting amped up for thanks to the Xbox Games Showcase earlier today.
Tetris Effect: Connectedwill release this holiday season for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
