One of the most popular types of moves that are inSmash Bros.is the spike, also known as the meteor smash. The majority of the characters that are available to play inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatehave at least one type of spike, and some, like Donkey Kong, even have four different spikes! Some spikes that are in the game are considerably more popular than others though.
10Donkey Kong’s Down-Special
Donkey Kong is one of the most popular charactersinSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, as the classic character was among the first fighters to ever appear inSuper Smash Bros. 64.
Donkey Kong is certainly meta as the character is quick, full of combos, can take a stock fairly early, and overall is just a beast when it comes to almost any matchup in the game. Donkey Kong has multiple spikes, but his best spike is easily his down-special. This move has Donkey Kong slap the ground as if it were a drum and can spike if timed correctly.

9Mario’s F-Air
This entry is easily the most classic and famous spike here. Mario, as Nintendo’s mascot, has been inSuper Smash Bros.ever since its first entry in the franchise. Among the character’s moveset is the famous forward-air move that any player will more than likely see a Mario dive for off-stage.
This move simply has Mario throw forth an arm in a spiking motion. The spike has excellent frame data, a good hit-box, and absolutely feels incredibly satisfying to land on an opponent who has gone off-stage.

8Link’s D-Air
Link is yet another character who has remainedinSuper Smash Bros.since the very first game, which wasSuper Smash Bros. 64. Link is a pretty balanced character in terms of zoning and being physically confrontational against an enemy.
When Link wishes to style on an opponent, though, the obvious choice is to go for a down-air while an opponent is off-stage. This move simply has Link hover above his sword as he points it downwards. If timed during the first several frames, this move will spike the enemy!

7Ganondorf’s D-Air
Ganondorf is one of the most popular characters in all ofSmash Bros. Ultimate, and it is also fair to say also one of the most infamous characters in the franchise. That is because players are tied up on whether Ganon is high-tier or low-tier, but really it all depends on the player.
Ganon has a great moveset, and one of his best moves is easily his down-air. This move is reminiscent of Captain Falcon’s down-air, but it hits much harder. Landing this move is fairly hard as Ganon has a horrible recovery, but if it lands, it is extremely satisfactory.

6Byleth’s Up-Special
DLCfighters are infamousinSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and that is the internet-wide debate of whether using DLC characters is almost like cheating because the characters have “broken” move sets. Whatever the case, it is true that Byleth has some amazing and nasty moves up their sleeve.
Byleth’s up-special not only allows the character to recover from incredible lengths but also can land an incredible spike by roping onto an enemy and then using them to recover, which spikes them downwards!

5Snake’s F-Air
Snake is one of themost hyped charactersto make their way back intoSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateand is one of the more niche characters, as his moveset is a bit odd with a zoning focus. This character has great smash power though, as his smashes KO at low percents.

One such move would be his forward-air, in which Snake raises one single leg and sends it downwards. This simple move proves effective as it can instantly spike an opponent and take a quick stock. The move is also just very satisfying to see land.
4Pikachu’s/Pichu’s Down-Special
Ever sinceSuper Smash Bros. 64, players who have chosen Pikachu as their main have come up with the mostflashy and amazing combosever to exist on a television screen. Known as Pikachu and Pichu’s most famous KO move is easily their down-special.
This move uses Thunder from thePokemonfranchise and pulls a column of thunder from the sky. The best aspect of this move is that if timed correctly, Pikachu/Pichu can summon Thunder, and if an enemy is where the thunder starts, it brings them downwards into a spike!

3Luigi’s Taunt
Luigi is a high-tier character inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, mainly due to his combo potential, which is scary when watching the best players in the world utilize Luigi tocombo their way to victory.Luigi has some incredible moves like his side-special, up-special, and grab, but funny enough, one of his best moves is his taunt.
One of Luigi’s taunts shows Luigi shyly kicking the ground, but what some fans may not know is that if that taunt hits within the first 1-3 frames while an enemy is below, the taunt spikes the enemy!

2King K. Rool’s B-Air
King K. Rool is one ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate’snewest characters to be able to participate in fighting some of the video gaming world’s best mascots. This character is easily high-tier with so many amazing moves and the fact that the character has armor.
Rool has multiple spikes, but his best one is easily his back-air. This move requires Rool to face his back to his opponent while off-stage, and when using it, it will have Rool turn around while throwing his fist down into a spiking motion! Very satisfying to land!

1Wolf’s Side-Special
TheStar Foxcharacters that are inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate(sorry, Krystal) are some of the fastest characters, as well as some of themore used fighters in the competitive scene. One such character is Wolf, who is the slowest, yet most powerful character in the franchise.
This character is infamous for taking an early stock, but if a Wolf player sought to end a match in style, they’d want to go for a side-special. This move is like Fox’s side-special, but it spikes at the very end while leaving Wolf vulnerable.
