Without a doubt,Nintendo is one of the most important brandsin the video game industry, given that its characters and games have established an impressive legacy. When Nintendo revealed that Universal Studios Japan was going to create a dedicated Super Nintendo World section in the theme park, fans were excited to see what that partnership could bring.
Unfortunately, Universal Studios announced that the opening of Super Nintendo World, which was supposed to happen before the Japan Olympics, waspostponed to Spring of 2021. At the time, there was no concrete date, but now it has been announced that Super Nintendo World will open earlier than expected and start entertaining guests on February 4th, 2021.

Universal Studios Japan and Nintendo have provided some details on what visitors should expect to see inSuper Nintendo World. First is aMario Kart-themed rollercoaster, which will be housed inside a reconstructed Bowser castle. The best part about this ride is that it will make use of AR and projection mapping technology, and guests will be donning AR headsets modeled afterMario’siconic cap. Although the cars will have steering wheels and multiple vehicles will be able to race alongside each other, the ride itself will primarily be on rails.
Additionally, Universal Studios Japan confirmed that theMario Kartrollercoaster will provide a different experience every time and will feature power-ups from item boxes, giving visitors the ultimateMario Kartexperience. At the moment, the park is working with local health officials to ensure that visitors and staff will be able to enjoy Super Nintendo World safely. Based on current restrictions, the park will only run at 50% capacity to ensure that guests and staff will be able to practice proper social distancing.
While the delay of Super Nintendo World’s opening may have impacted Nintendo, the company itself is doing extremely well. Just months after the release ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, the game was able to sell over 22 million copies, which is an impressive feat in any year. Nintendo also announced several days ago thatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsachieved another sales milestoneafter it passed six million sales in its home country. Given the continued popularity ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, it is expected that some of its characters will be featured in Super Nintendo World, but whether the game will have a dedicated ride like Mario Kart remains to be seen.
Super Nintendo World will start accepting visitors on June 06, 2025.
