Last week, theXbox Store leaked the existenceofStar Wars: Squadrons. EA didn’t waste time properly confirming the game, and now it has released the first trailer along with a number of other details about whatStar Warsfans can expect.
As announced by EA,Star Wars: Squadronstakes place after the events ofReturn of the Jedi, and it sees the Galactic Empire at odds with the New Republic. In the single player campaign, players will play as both a New Republic pilot as well as a pilot fighting on behalf of the Galactic Empire. These characters and their ships can be customized, with EA stating that all of this customization will be earned “solely through gameplay.”

Alongside the campaign,Star Wars: Squadronswill boast a 5v5 multiplayer component as well, giving players the chance to battle it out with friends inX-Wings, TIE-fighters, and many other iconicStar Warsships. These battles will takeStar Wars: Squadronsplayers all across the galaxy, at some familiar and never-before-seen locations from theStar Warsuniverse. There will be some brand new characters as well, along with cameos by familiar faces from the movies.
It was also confirmed after the trailer thatStar Wars: Squadronswill be available for PC (through EA Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store), PS4, and Xbox One, with cross-play support. The game will also support virtual reality on PC, though it wasn’t specified if PlayStation VR support is included as well. Those wanting to see more will have to wait for theEA Play eventon Thursday, June 18, as that’s when EA will be pulling the curtain back on the first-everStar Wars: Squadronsgameplay.
And finally, it was confirmed byElectronic ArtsthatStar Wars: Squadronswill be released at a budget price of $39.99. No reason was given for the budget price, but perhaps it means the game will be on the shorter side. Whatever the case may be, more information should come to light at EA Play.
Fans will notice that there was no mention ofStar Wars: Squadronsfor next-generation consoles. However, thanks to thePS5 and Xbox Series X being backward compatible with the PS4 and Xbox Onerespectively, the game should still be playable on the new systems when they launch.
Star Wars: Squadronswill launch on October 2 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
