According to the chairman of the Association of Czech Game Developers, Pavel Barák, GSC Game World has been making inquiries about relocating. AlthoughSTALKER 2’sdevelopment is on holduntil a Ukrainian victory occurs, it seems that the developers want to make sure they have a solid base to work out of when the project resumes. Barák reported that the Association of Czech Game Developers gave GSC Game World advice on legal and employment matters.
Petr Kolar of Ashborne Games, which is based out of Brno in the Czech Republic, also reports having been in contact with GSC Game World on the subject of relocation. Jan Kavan of Czech studio CBD Software also confirmed he had spoken with GSC’s business development manager–in fact, he claimed that he had provided them with instructions on how to start a company in the Czech Public. WhileGSC Game World has yet to make an official announcement, it appears that the pieces are being lined up for a major relocation. However, while it appears that some of the company’s staff is indeed being moved from Kyiv to a new office in Prague, this may end up moving the entire studio.
As of writing, it appears thatpart of the Ukrainian officeis certainly being relocated and the staff in question are reportedly already registering for business in the Czech Republic. However, it’s unclear whether GSC Game World will stop at a partial relocation or go on to completely uproot the company. The extent of the move may depend on the outcome of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. If the attack ends in the near future, the company could scale back or even cancel its relocation efforts.
