For fans of off-kilter mods,Marvel’s Spider-Man Remasterednow gives one the option to turn Peter Parker into IGN’s middling review score for the recently released Batman gameGotham Knights. It may very well be the strangest mod yet for Insomniac’s open-world superhero game, which is really saying something for a game where mods let playersreplace Spider-Man with Uncle Ben’s gravestone.
By now, it’s clear thatGotham Knights’ debut isn’t going like many were hoping for. Critical reception has been resoundingly mixed, with reviews taking issue with everything from lackluster gameplay and design choices to a detrimental amount of bugs and performance issues. Evenmore positive reviews forGotham Knightsnote how the game falls short of its potential in key ways. Perhaps the overall mood towards the game can best be summed up by IGN’s review, which gave it a tepid 5 out of 10 score.

That score in particular has now been jokingly memorialized as aMarvel’s Spider-Manskin mod created by Princec23, and it’s truly a sight to behold. The “Gotham Knights IGN Review Score” suit does exactly what the name suggests and swaps out Spidey for a red hexagon featuring theIGN reviewscore on the front and theGotham Knightslogo on the back. On top of that, the review score has no animations, which makes the gameplay footage Princec23 shared of a rigid hexagon beating up criminals look even more surreal than it already is.
UnlikeGotham Knights, the overall reception to this wackySpider-Manmod has been rather positive. Over on Nexus Mods, it’s had over 5,100 views and plenty of comments praising the weirdness of the mod, as well as commending it for how it playfully dunks on the game that inspired it. Even IGN has noticed the mod and highlighted it in a video showing the Spider-score going toe-to-toe with the Shocker, unleashing a barrage of attacks and quips.
As funny as it is, the mod’s existence may leave disappointed Batman fans with a bitter taste in their mouths. A lot of hype had surroundedGotham Knightsin the leadup to its release, with many hoping that the Warner Bros. Montreal-developed game would fill the void left byRocksteady’s acclaimedArkhamseries.
That’s not the case for a lot of players unfortunately, and it’s unclear if addressing the technical issues plaguing the game right now could elevate it closer towards what they want it to be. As such, it might sting more than amuse to see the game getting made fun of in a morewarmly-received superhero game likeMarvel’s Spider-Man, even if it is pretty hilarious at face value.
