Kraven the Hunter has made New York City his hunting ground inMarvel’sSpider-Man 2, and as his conquest and murder of the dangerous Spider-Man villains continues, Peter Parker andthe Black Suitare itching to put an end to it once and for all. Players will fight Kraven the Hunter during theAnything Can Be Brokenmain mission inSpider-Man 2, and it’s a daring fight to be sure.
Kraven prepares for his last hunt, and he wants to make sure it’s not an easy one. He challenges Spider-Man to his potential last battle, and corrupted by the Symbiote, Peter is more than happy to oblige, and save Miles. Kraven hits hard, his agility makes him quick and unpredictable, and the tricks he has up his sleeve make him one of the hardest boss fights inSpider-Man 2.
Kraven Phase One
As soon as Peter frees himself from his indestructible cage, the boss fight will begin, and Kraven will waste no time in trying to land a devastating blow.Kraven will leap into the air in an attempt to punch the ground. This move cannot be dodged, andit’s a parry-only move. Players should have plenty of time toparry this attack, so just watch for when Kraven is in the air and this yellow circle turns red. After parrying his attacks, that’s when players are going to want to land a few rageful punches.
Another important attack to look out for isKraven’s Crush move. This will require players to dodge, as they cannot counter this one.Kraven will indicate this Crush attack by raising a fist in the air as he attempts to bring it downto grab Spider-Man.
There are weapons found around the arena, which Kraven can pick up and throw at Spider-Man.Spider-Man can either throw these weapons back at Kraven with L1 + R1, dodge them, orthrow them before Kraven even gets a chance to use them.
Kraven has alsobooby-trapped the arena with mines, so players shouldwatch out for when he leaps back and raises his right arm, as he will arm the traps on the floor. These are noted by thepulsing red rings, indicating where the explosions will take place. Simplyavoid these areas until they detonate, and then get back to hitting Kraven, and hard.
Kraven can sometimes combo moves, such as astrong yet slow punch, followed by a swift kick. Spider-Man can dodge all of these moves, or parry them.Upon the third parry, Kraven will momentarily be stunned, opening him for a flurry of more attacks for Spider-Man to whittle at his health. Like other boss fights, save theFocus meter for Health.
Another move to look out for, but one that is seemingly unavoidable to dodge, is when Kraven jumps back and reaches into his vest topull out some smoke pellets. He will quickly throw these towards Spider-Man, blurring his vision and disappearing during the stun. It’s best to use this moment towatch for Spider-Sense and use the Circle Button to dodgewhen the Spider-Sense prompts red.
With this moveset understood, players can play carefully and chip away at Kraven’s health. TheWeb-Grabber Gadget is a great asset to players here, as it will keep Kraven stunned and prevent him from pulling off any moves, allowing players to attack him, and get in some great combos and Symbiote Abilities that theyshould have spent skill points onto increase the power of Peter Parker.
Kraven Phase Two
After Kraven’s health has been extinguished, Kraven and Spider-Man will enter a new arena, this time, with a bell at its center. When this bell rings, Peter and the Symbiote will be stunned and vulnerable to Kraven’s attacks. Thebest and only way to stop the bell from ringing is to use Web-Shooters aimed at the bell to keep it stuckand avoid it from ringing. However,these webs will eventually wear off, andKraven will hit the bell whenever possible, so just keep one eye on the bell, especially when Kraven throws a spear at it.
Whilst the bell should be the main priority for players, Kraven’s heavy use of stealth tactics during this phase is also cause for concern.Kraven will often use smoke bombs to go invisible, where he will perch himself in a tree.Players can find Kraven by following the green laser sight from his sniper rifle. It’s best touse a Web Strike to get up close before he can get off a shot, as this weapon is fast and deadly, with a short dodge window.
Kraven has some cloaking tech during this second phase, and it can be quite a challenge to discover him. Players should justwatch their Spider-Sense to help negate his attacks with dodges, ashe will sometimes try and flank or throw spears, which Spider-Man can dodge with the Circle Button.
A heavy attack from Kraven sees him rush towards Spider-Man with a two-handed axe.Kraven will swing this weapon multiple times, and players can dodge or parry each of these attacks. Regardless of their defense,Kraven will finish this move with an overhead slam, which players must parryin order to survive the attack and provide themselves with an opening to punch and kick Kraven.
When Kraven is in trouble,he might whistle to summon two mechanical beastsinto the hunting grounds. Players should save their abilities for these beasts, as they can be rather bothersome with their attacks and ability suppression powers. Players need to take them out, as Kraven will not slow down or give Spider-Man breathing room against these enemies.
As usual, the best strategy for mostSpider-Man 2boss fights involves getting up close and personal. Fighting with Spider-Man during his time in the Black Suit means they canuse the Symbiote Surge with L3 + R3, which enables them to bask in the true power and rageful nature of the Symbiote, permitting them to act on some devastating attacks without worrying about getting hit themselves. Once Kraven’s health bar has been eradicated, a cutscene will play, thus bringing this fightto an end. However, another boss fight begins soon after witha good friend.
