The sequel to the original cave diving rogue-like titleSpelunkyis finally out on PlayStation 4 in the form ofSpelunky 2. To celebrateSpelunky 2’s launch, the official PlayStation YouTube channel released a launch trailer for the game which showcases the various stressful situations awaiting players.
For those who may be unaware,Spelunky 2has been in development for quite some time now, seeing as the originalSpelunkyreleased back in 2008.Spelunky 2’s release date was delayedback in 2019, as the game’s creator, Derek Yu, wanted to continue polishing and adding details to the title. Thankfully, a State of Play presentation back in August confirmed the game’s current release, with fans only having to wait a month to get their hands on it. Now,Spelunky 2is out on PS4 and PlayStation uploaded an excellent launch trailer alongside the game’s release.

The trailer itself shows the various different landscapes and dungeons that players will traverse inSpelunky 2, with a voiceover also giving a bit of insight into the game’s lore. The main character this time around is named Ana, who is searching for her parents who are somewhere down in the depths of the moon.
Spelunkyfans will recognize Ana’s father as the main protagonist from the originalSpelunky, who will most likely be an unlockable character for players to choose inSpelunky 2’s online multiplayeror solo adventures. Fans of the original game will also notice returning faces like Olmec and Monty the dog sprinkled throughout the trailer.
The trailer also shows plenty of new content coming toSpelunky 2aside from the brand new setting and environments. The launch trailer shows a variety of new enemies, like the fire-breathing dinosaur creatures and yellow lizards that have the ability to roll up into a ball and chase the player. Additionally, returning enemies like the cavemen and bats show up throughout the trailer, showing the sequel is still very much in touch with the originalSpelunky,showing whySpelunky 2received such positive reviews on PlayStation 4.
Though the game is currently only available on PS4,Spelunky 2will release on Steamat the end of the month on September 29, which Yu revealed via Twitter at the beginning of the month. Fans looking forward to the PC releaseof Spelunky 2can wishlist the game on Steam right now to get a notification as soon as it releases.
