Anyone who’s playedSkyrimknows only too well the feeling of being in the middle of a fight and suddenly being approached by the game’s courier, but it turns out there is at least one thing that will stop the NPC dead in his tracks. At this point,The Elder Scrolls 5’s longevity is almost infamous. Releasing in 2011, nobody expected the fifth entry in Bethesda’s epic fantasy series to go on for quite so long, but despite the years, it remains in the spotlight.

One of the reasons for this is the host of characters that have become synonymous with the game. One such example isSkyrim’s dedicated courier, a messenger that shows great tenacity by always being able to find the Dragonborn to hand them a special letter in person. There doesn’t seem to be any element of danger that will stop this stalwart Tamriel inhabitant from fulfilling his duties. However, someone has discovered that at least one thing can thwart this character.

In a recent post on Reddit, user Objective-Nyc1981 uploaded a brief clip of theirSkyrimplaythrough. While there isn’t really anything out of the ordinary going on, hot on their tails is the resolute courier. However, they appear to not be able to catch the player up. As the user gets closer, the messenger begins to trail, but as soon as they back up over a particular bridge, the NPC can no longer follow. It seems they’ve found their “Kryptonite,” as Objective-Nyc1981 puts it. According to another user, this is likely due to the bridge being modded, which could be having an effect on the courier’s pathfinding abilities. Essentially, it looks as though this character has become confused at the presence of something not part of the base game.

There are all kinds ofstrange glitches that occur inSkyrim, many of which have been documented by fans for over 11 years at this point. In fact, that’s probably why the game is still going strong to this day. It may have gorgeous visuals, at least for the time, not to mention in-depth lore and lots of areas to discover, but much ofTES5’s charm comes from all the little bugs that make the epic RPG somewhat amusing.

Even the vanilla experience ofSkyrimhas some weird things in it. When put under a microscope, there is some oddness in the Bethesda game, whether it’s putting a bucket over someone’s head or extracting the soul of a dragon. Of course, it’s fantasy, so fans can easily shift expectations, but seeing a dedicated messenger not make it across a simple bridge is admittedly quite jarring.

Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
