These fish can serve as food for survival, or can be used in alchemy to conjure incredible potions. Take a look at a few tips that can help the Dragonborn become a master fisherman.
10Craft A Fishing Rod
Fishing rods can be found throughout Skyrim, but the easiest way to get it is byfinding the fishing spot in Helgen.However, players can also craft a fishing rod at any anvil. Just like any other craftable item, it needs raw materials; in this case,five Iron Ingots and one piece of Firewood.
Iron Ingot can be found in iron mines such as Embershard Mine, Halted Stream Camp, Iron-Breaker Mine, and Left Hand Mine. Firewood can be collected from Highpoint Tower and Volkihar Dungeons. Fishing with a well-crafted fishing rodcan make the experience a lot more satisfyingthan using washed-up equipment, so it’s worth finding materials.
9Look For Ripples In The Water
Once the fishing rod is equipped, walk up to the fishing supplies, a small vessel with fish and bait kept near shallow waters, to start fishing. After casting a line into the water,look for ripples on the surface.These ripples are a good indication of schools of fish swimming around.
If there are no ripples at the fishing spot, it means there are fewer fish in the vicinity.Players can return to the spot after twenty-four hoursfor a better chance of catching fish.
8Talk to Swims-In-Deep-Water
Swims-In-Deep-Water is a character in Riften Fishery who knows a thing or two about fishing. Head on over to the fishery and talk to him about improving fishing skills, and he’ll provide a letter with a list of fair weather fishes to catch. This will trigger the “Catch of the Day” quest, which will act as a motive to reel in all the fish listed by Swims-In-Deep-Water.

Carp, Glassfish, Goldfish, and Pogfish are the fish mentioned in the letter. Skyrim players can cook the fish caught to make Swims-In-Deep-Water smile.
Don’t leave the Riften Fishery yet. After speaking to Swims-In-Deep-Water, enter the room next to where he is seated to find a bookshelf.The shelf should have a book titled “Fishing Mastery, V1"that has detailed descriptions of the fish and the right weather conditions to catch them.
The book states that Carp can be found on a clear day near streams. The Glassfish and the Pogfish can be caught in lakes on rainy days, while the Goldfish can be caught in small ponds. It also warns Skyrim players against fishing near places covered with snow and ice. Take these tips into account.
6Use The Clear Skies Shout To Get Rid Of Mist

5Learn About Fishes From Line And Lure
The book “Line And Lure” can be foundsouthwest of Riverwood and north of Helgen, at a campsite right below the Mage Stone.“Line And Lure” is written by Aland Sea-Bird, and is a compilation of all that he’s learned from years of fishing the waters of Skyrim.
The book has six chapters, giving elaborate instructions on what it takes to be a great fisherman.Among the instructions are advice on handling the fishing rod, finding supplies in the wild, and casting the line for a perfect catch.
4Make It Rain With The Storm Call Shout
Unlike Carp, Glassfish can be found when the weather is pouring. Players running through dry and sunny fields canmake it rain by using the Storm Call shout. The Dragonborn can create thunderstorms with heavy downpours with the shout. Storm Call is also able to create lightning strikes, which have a small chance of hitting fish in the stream.
Players canlearn the Storm Call shout at the Skuldafn ruins. Skuldafn can only be visited once in the game, and skipping the ruins will make it impossible to obtain Storm Call for the rest of the game. Don’t leave here without learning the shout!
3Collect Fishing Maps
Fishing maps can indicate several fishing spots in Skyrim, and can be collected from a number of sources.The fishing maps of Falkreath and The Rift are kept on top of a wooden dresser in Riften Fishery.

A few fishing maps can be purchased from general goods stores in and around Skyrim. Players can purchase the fishing maps of The Pale and The Reach from a merchant in Whiterun, for 25 gold each. The Dragonborn can catch plenty of River Betty and Goldfish at these locations.
2Explore The World For Fishing Spots
The most thrilling part ofSkyrimis exploring the vast lands on foot. There are dozens of fishing spots that can be discovered by venturing out into the wildnerness and casting a line into the waters. While exploring Whiterun Hold, for example, gamers can stumble onto fishing spots to the north and south of Riverwood.
There’s a fishing spot to the extreme east and extreme west of Winterhold. Walking on the river bed to the south of Solitude will reveal three fishing spots along the way. Those who have just exited Markarth can head to the east of the city to find fishing spots along the river. Avoid fast travel, and simply wander to find fish.
1Breed Fish In A Hatchery
Those wanting to earn coins from their fishing can breed fish in a hatchery,which can be crafted at the homestead of Windstad Manor. Constructing a fish hatchery requiresthree Sawn Logs, three pieces of Quarried Stones, and four Nails.
After the hatchery has been crafted, any fish from Skyrim can be added to be bred. Once a fish has been added, new fish of that species are spawned over time. These fish can be harvested to craft potions, cook food, or to be sold to local merchants.
