TheArkhamseries revolutionized the superhero genre in video games by introducing an exciting fighting system, a massive open world filled with side quests, and compelling stories that carried from one title to another. Developer WB Montreal is now taking the focus away from Batman and giving it to the other members of the Bat-Family in the upcomingGotham Knightsgame. Players will be able to control Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and the Red Hood as they fightto protect a city no longer under Batman’scare.
The most compelling aspect ofGotham Knightsis the fact that the four main characters will all be playable at any time, and will work together to deal devastating combat combos. This formula works great for the Bat-Family members, as comic fans will know that Batman has trained them not only to work independently, but also in unison. Within theBatmanuniverse, however, there are other interesting characters that could benefit from this style of game; namely groups of villains, or in certain cases anti-heroes, that could give fans an insight into the inner workings of Gotham with a DLC release.

The Gotham City Sirens
The Gotham Sirens are probably the most popularteam in Gotham after the Bat-Family, consisting of popular female villains like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. A team-up is usually always in the cards for these characters, and is something that has been explored inArkhamgames before with Catwoman and Poison Ivy sharing screen time and talking about their old partnership.
Exploring the combat style of each of the characters and how they would work as a team would be fascinating. While theArkham gamesgave players the opportunity to play as Catwoman, andthe upcomingSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewill let players control Harley Quinn, no DC game has given players the ability to play as someone with the powers of Poison Ivy.

League of Assassins
Few groups in the Batman Universe have had more of an impact than the League of Assassins; the group initially trained Batman to have the fighting prowess he does. As a group of trained killers, the League represents the opposite of the Bat-Family’s no-kill philosophy, and for years has tried to infiltrate Gotham in one way or the other. With members likeRa’s al Ghul, Talia al Ghul, and Deathstroke, playing as these trained killers would undoubtedly be a lot of fun.
There is another big reason why a DLC argument could be made for the League of Assassins, and that is Damian Wayne. The son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul would go on to become Robin, and would be a great addition to the game. Especially if it means that he would clash with three former Robins, namelyGotham Knight’sRobin (Tim Drake), the first Robin (Dick Grayson), and the former Robin, Red Hood. Not to mention the possibility of having Cassandra Cain, a former Batgirl also in the game, as she too was directly trained by the League of Assassins.

Birds of Prey
With Batgirl being one of the major characters inGotham Knights, having a DLC focus on the Birds of Prey would be a great way to add some backstory for her character. The Birds of Preywas a team-up of Batgirl, Black Canary, and Huntress, with other characters, often joining and leaving the team like Catwoman, Vixen, and Katana.
A Birds of Prey DLC would be a great way to show how Batgirl was able to recover following her injuries at the hands of the Joker that left her paralyzed, donning the role of Oracle, as seen in previousArkhamgames. Not to mention it would be a good way totie-in theBatmanuniverse to other spin-offssuch as the Green Arrow universe with Black Canary, or even the Justice League by introducing Hawkgirl.
WithGotham Knightsslated to release sometime in 2022, fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to play as the four members of the Bat-Family in the firstBatmangame that will not feature The Dark Knight himself. It will be an interesting take on the superhero genre, one that can open the door for a bigger team-up and could lead to other superhero team-based games, such as the Teen Titans or the Justice League. IfGotham Knightsdecides to followthe same core formula as theArkhamgames, then a DLC with new playable characters is something that players can expect to see after the release of the game.
Gotham Knightsreleases in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
