To celebrate Halloween, Sega has shared a rather amazing pumpkin carved in the style ofSonic Origins' box art. It’s clear that this was no easy feat to accomplish, as the art in question features Sonic and his friends and enemies as they’re presented in theSega Genesis titlesfound in the compilation. It’s rather detailed, and the person who carved the pumpkin didn’t lose too many of them while working on it, which is most impressive.Of course, this specific jack-o-lantern was made to promoteSonic Origins, which released earlier this year in June.Originsties together all the games found within it as one cohesive narrative, and the box art reflects this by including all the characters for a sense of unity. The shadows between the characters, as well as the line work of the original art piece, were colored in black on the pumpkin itself to make it stand out more against the light. Where posts like these are usually made by social media managers and other company employees, Sega reveals in the comments that it paid someone who carves pumpkins for a living to make it.
The art was done by @PumpkinFreakArt, who also carved a jack-o-lantern of just the Sega logo for the company as well. The artist specifically uses the specific squash as their art medium all year round, using foam ones when they’re not in season. PumpkinFreak typically creates carvings with original horror elements to them, some even covering the entire pumpkin. However, they also create art dealing with scary pop culture icons like Chuckyand the Gremlins.
Sega has used the post to encourage fans to share their own pumpkin carvings from this year, and the comments are filled with plenty of otherSonicpumpkins.OneLike a Dragonfanhas taken the opportunity to ask Sega to have its logo carved in a watermelon, referencing a scene inYakuza 4.

The post may have been one to promote acollection ofSonicgamesthat are now on sale, but it seems to have done a good job in getting people in the holiday spirit.
