Activision and Infinity Ward have managed to breathe a bit more life into theCall of Dutyfranchise thanks to the extremely popularWarzoneBattle Royale mode. Already, this free to play experience has managed to pull ina staggering 30 million playerswith plenty of new updates on the way to try and keep as many of them around as possible. While the Battle Royale rumors have finall subsided, they’ve seemingly been replaced by new speculation swirling around a possible reappearance ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
As the amount of leaks continue to pile up, this is quickly turning into a situation of where there’s smoke, there’s fire.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remasteredhas been rumored for a very long time, but fans may finally be getting answers. According to Okami13_ on Twitter, someone who has previously gotten a hold of pre-release details forCall of Dutytitles, Activision is planning a reveal forModern Warfare 2 Remasteredlater this month on March 30.

Infinity Ward has given currentCall of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers a taste ofModern Warfare 2by adding maps like Rust and Crash as well as the character Ghost to its online modes. There’s also a handful ofEaster Eggs in the game through weapon charms. Jumper cables reference a particular scene from the Takedown mission, a gasoline canister is a nod to the twist that happens in the mission Loose Ends, while the final charm appears to be a revolver that’s reminiscent of what General Shepherd carried.
Obviously, fans should take this with a grain of salt until Activision officially confirms or denies it, but there’s a lot of mounting evidence to the game actually existing. In fact, just a few days ago, anew rating popped up in South Koreafor theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2campaign. While some continue to speculate that the multiplayer portion will come later, it’s possible that Activision doesn’t want to cannibalize the other activeCall of Dutygames and their player base.
Whatever the case may be, Activision definitely has plans for moreCall of Dutythis year. Outside of its traditional yearly release cycle, leakers have indicated that the mega publisher hasmultipleCall of Dutyrelated projects in active development. The mainline 2020 release is currently codenamed Zeus, a free-to-play title from Sledgehammer Games due out next year, Infinity Ward’s nextCall of Dutygame, and the previously mentionedModern Warfare 2 Remastered. For fans of this franchise, there appears to be plenty to be excited about.
