In the lead up to release, a new trailer forRatchet and Clank: Rift Aparthas aired giving a look into the story. Developed by Insomniac Games, the upcoming title will be the first in the series to launch for PlayStation 5. With recent trailers giving a deeper look at the gameplay inRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart, this recent video shows what players can expect for the narrative.
By this point, PlayStation fans will be very familiar with theRatchet and Clankseries. Each entry sees the famous Lombax and his signature robot utilize arange of weapons and traversal abilitiesto take on hordes of enemies. In comparison to story-driven Sony titles, the gameplay inRatchet and Clankis typically the main draw. But Insomniac seems to be shaking aspects of the story up for the new game.

A major element coming inRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartis the introduction of multiple dimensions. Due to the intersection of these alternate realms, the fabric of reality is starting to fall apart. In past reveals, the developers showed off a rift mechanic that is unique to this entry. Players can make use of these portals tomove across planets and dive into explorationof different zones. As some may expect, this is not just for gameplay but also connects to the overall plotline.
According to the story trailer, these various dimensions can serve various purposes. Some look to be smaller areas for challenges or events, whereas others can be puzzles specific to Clank. Similar to other entries, the main characters are up against an evil emperor with a never-ending supply of baddies. But this time, there is female Lombax known asRivet who is joiningRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Between these two and Clank, fans will be able to explore the varying dimensions and save reality from destruction.
Even if story is not the major focus of these games, Insomniac seems to be dialing it up for this release. Some of the teased set pieces and levels look bigger than ever, and the graphics are reaching a cinematic quality. Though it remains to be seen how deep the narrative will be, adding in another Lombax is an exciting twist, especially since thevoice actress for Rivetis one of the more famous in the industry.
With other Sony experiences likeGod of WarorThe Last of Usavailable, some players may be hoping for an elevated story. Even with this trailer, it is difficult to say if the narrative will stack up to previous entries. Fans will just need to wait and see if the plot meets the high expectations set by the graphics and gameplay ofRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
