Right now seems like a fantastic time to be a fan of all things spooky. Withhorror games dominating this year’s Summer Games Fest, showing trailers from the newly announcedAliens: Dark Descent, as well as the hotly anticipatedThe Callisto Protocol, those who enjoy digital scares are going to be spoiled for choice. There’s alsoMADiSON, an upcoming indie title from Bloodious Games, which recently launched a new trailer that’s not afraid to wear its influences on its sleeve.

As spotted by DSO Gaming, the latest trailer gives a brief overview of some of the game’s story elements, as well as a healthy dose of gameplay footage, all of which really sell the scares that this game is going for. It’s been no secret among those who have been watching from the sidelines thatMADiSONhas seriousPTvibes, really gunning for that ultra realistic aesthetic combined with an unsettling atmosphere that takes place inside the one location where people should feel safe, their own home.

For those who aren’t familiar with the game, it functions in the same vein as any modern first-person survival horror experience. The wholePT/Silent Hillscomparison may be getting a little dated for some. So to put it in more modern context, it seems to be carrying the torch from the likes of thedisturbing horror gameVisage. That game also took cues from the cancelled Hideo Kojima / Guillermo del Toro project, but the main difference here is thatVisagewas actually a fully released game. Evidently, the scrappedSilent Hillsgame has left a huge hole for the horror fan base.

In terms ofMADiSON, one mechanic that it introduces is the use of a camera. Similar to thePS2 Japanese horror gameFatal Frame, Bloodious' title will task players with capturing images and solving puzzles in order to progress. The new trailer is a creepy slice of what’s to come, especially for those who enjoy playing horror that leans more towards psychological elements.

WithResident Evil 4Remakenow officially on the way,the genre is absolutely brimming with a lot of new titles and the return of beloved classics. It’s hard to say why horror is getting a lot of love lately, but there are plenty of independent and AAA releases inbound. So, as previously mentioned, now seems like as good a time as any to be a fan of horror gaming.
