Many gamers have fond memories of Valve’s seminal tactical FPS titleCounter-Strike. It was seen as a monumental landmark in the first-person shooter genre, with its competitive gameplay being a topic of discussion several years later. Whether it beCounter-Strike: ClassicorCounter-Strike: Global Offensive, these games are iconic titles from Valve, with an active esports scene that continues to this day.
Despite its legacy however, the originalCounter-Strikehas only ever been playable on PC, with attempts to bring it to consoles not panning out. This is looking to change in the near future, with Valve’supcoming Steam Deck handheld console. Steam Deck has been a hotly discussed piece of hardware in 2021, gaining traction with people due to its design and portable nature. It also boasts the fact that it will allow gamers to play their Steam library on the go, withCounter-Strikebeing one of the games. However, fans won’t have to wait till February to tryCounter-Strikeon a handheld console, as one programmer managed to bring this FPS to the Nintendo DS.

Going by the name of Fewnity, this fan showcases howCounter-Strikehas been adapted to the Nintendo DS. This includes programming the DS touch screen to utilize certain functions while the top screen shows the action going on. This includes weapon switching on the bottom screen, as well as a portion of it being able to control the player’s first-person view. The D-pad is used to control the player’s movement, while other buttons are utilized for guns. Some of the guns included in this release include a sniper rifle, sub-machine gun, pistols, and a melee knife weapon.
Fewnity has been developing this version ofCounter-Strikeon the DSfor awhile now, with this latest video showing that players can try it out for themselves with an alpha release. They note that this version has both unfinished WIP single-player and multiplayer modes, though matches with bots are currently possible. Other missing features include other weapons such as grenades and other equipment as they’re not currently programmed in this release.
Regardless, it’s impressive how much the developer has implemented into thismodded version ofCounter-Strike, such as compatability with Nintendo’s rumble pack, weapon switching, and even cross-play with the PS Vita on a dedicated server.
