Summary

Today, many games have opted out of one-and-done releases. There is an incentive, and often an expectation, for more content to be added later on. This is true forPokemon ScarletandViolet, which have stayed relevant through The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, mass outbreak events, and Tera Raid events. This content is meant to tide players over until the next release in thePokemonseries, which appears to be the recently announcedPokemon Legends: Z-A.

Even after beating the main game and filling out the Paldean Pokedex, players returned toPokemon ScarletandVioletfor the 7-Star Tera Raids. These special events serve as high level content for players who have already beaten the game, but are interested in the challenge of taking on and capturing powerful Pokemon. The 7-Star Tera Raid events kicked off with Fire Tera-type Charizard back in December 2022. Charizard is returning in the middle of March 2024, begging the question of what comes next forPokemon ScarletandViolet’s 7-Star Tera Raids.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Starters So Far

While there are other special Tera Raid events that highlight Pokemon like Gimmighoul and Mismagius, the7-Star Tera Raidshave almost exclusively featured starter Pokemon. These starters have the special title of “the Unrivaled” and the Mightiest Mark, which denotes their status of being a 7-Star Tera Raid boss. Thus far, these starters have been featured as 7-Star Tera Raid bosses:

Fans have speculated that Charizard’s return could be a way to round-out the end of the 7-Star Tera Raids. This would leave out all the final evolutions of theScarletandVioletstarters, as well as Meganium,Feraligatr, Sceptile, Swampert, Torterra, Serperior, Emboar, and Primarina. If this is not the end to the 7-Star Tera Raids, however, it would make the most sense for the raids to next feature the starters that have thus far been left out of the action.

Possible 7-Star Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Future

The Perfect Stage to Promote Legends Z-A Starters

It is also possible that following the alternatively Tera-typed Kanto starters, the developers at Game Freak will use this opportunity to promotethe next starters forPokemon Legends: Z-A. The game’s predecessor,Pokemon Legends: Arceusbroke the mold by featuring three starter Pokemon from three different regions: Rowlett from Alola, Cyndaquil from Johto, and Oshawott from Unova. IfPokemon Legends Z-Acontinues in this tradition, then players can rule out the starters fromPokemon XandY’s Kalos region. They have already enjoyed their own 7-Star Tera Raids, regardless.

If Game Freak isn’t ready to spill the secret of the next starters just yet, then there are other Pokemon that could build hype for the return to the Kalos region. The Kalos starters in their third and final evolutions – Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja – could be givenalternative Tera-typesthe way the Kanto starters have in the last three Raids. This would be a simple way to keep the 7-Star Tera Raids going while fans await the as-yet announced release date ofPokemon Legends: Z-A.

Mega Evolutions Will Return Next Year

Another factor of the new game that has fans excited is the return of Mega Evolution. As of now, the only Pokemon with Mega Evolved forms that have been featured in 7-Star Tera Raids are the three Kanto starters, as well as Salamence, Blaziken, andMewtwo. It has been speculated thatPokemon Legends: Z-Awill add more Mega Evolutions to old favorites. Considering the fact that Swampert and Sceptile have Mega Evolutions, it might be their time to shine in theScarletandViolet7-Star Tera Raids. Perhaps the next step for the 7-Star Tera Raids is for Game Freak to remind players of all the other Pokemon, such as Gengar and Heracross, that also have Mega Evolutions. Alternatively, maybe the next Raids will tease those aforementioned old favorites that will receive new Mega Evolutions in the upcoming game.

The Dragon Tera-type Charizard Raid may mark the end, or a new beginning, forPokemon ScarletandViolet’s 7-Star Tera Raids. Right now, there is no official word as to what comes next. Fans hope that there will be a few more Pokemon added to the schedule to keep them entertained as they wait forthe release ofPokemon Legends: Z-A.
