The originalPokemon Snapreleased in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 in the midst of the 90sPokemoncraze, earning mostly positive reviews and selling well over 1 million copies. With mostPokemongames revolving around catching and battling Pokemon, the concept of a rails-shooter style game where the goal is tosnap photos of Pokemonwas a surprising hit, with fans calling for a sequel for years.

Generally speaking,New Pokemon Snaptakes everything from the original game and advances it considerably, which is to be expected with a 22 year gap between releases. However, there is one key way that some fans may feelNew Pokemon Snapis lacking when compared to the originalPokemon Snap. This downside was highlighted recently in a Reddit clip shared by user RetroVisionist22, reminding fans of one way that the originalPokemon Snapis superior to its successor.
The clip in question shows aPokemon Snapplayer throwing an apple at a Charmeleon who is walking around a lava pit. The well-timed throw sends Charmeleon falling into the lava, but the trauma causes him to evolve into amassive Charizard. This is one of the most memorable moments of the originalPokemon Snap, and there are other examples of Pokemon evolving throughout the game. This idea of solving environmental puzzles to make Pokemon evolve was pretty much entirely removed fromNew Pokemon Snap, though it still has puzzles of its own without having them revolve around Pokemon evolutions.
Fans were disappointed when they found out thatNew Pokemon Snapwas doing away with Pokemon evolutions, and it remains one big advantage that the original game has over the new one. Luckily, anyone interested in checking out the originalPokemon Snapon their Nintendo Switch should be able to do so in the relatively near future, as the game has been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
TheNintendo Switch Online Expansion Packis a pricier version of the Nintendo Switch Online service, giving gamers access to some of the most popular Nintendo 64 games ever made.
