Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask focused on the region of Kitakami and likely acted as a way to build up the story of the upcoming Indigo Disk DLC by giving both Carmine and Kieran plenty of screen time. The Teal Mask added several new Pokemon, with the regional fakesPoltchageist and Sinistcha, the cross-gen Applin evolution named Dipplin, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, the Loyal Three (Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti), and finally Ogerpon. With eight new critters in The Teal Mask and eight more rumored for The Indigo Disk, the lineup seems good and quite rich, but the numbers for the second DLC don’t add up based on leaks and expectations.

As it stands, only four new Pokemon in The Indigo Disk expansion have been revealed, with them being the cross-gen Duraludon evolution named Archaludon, two new Paradox critters called Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, and then the titular Legendary called Terapagos. These creatures alone are quite a compelling selection already, but they are not all the new Pokemon coming with the second DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, and based on datamining there are four more. The problem is that with a grand total of eight new critters, it seems two could be left out, and there is no indication of what is going to happen to them.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk Pokedex Has More Limits Than it Should

When Archaludon was first teased by renownedPokemonleaker Riddler Khu, it was meant to be a Gen 5 tie-in in multiple ways.Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Archaludon teases new Gen 5 games, in fact, with it being shaped like one of Unova’s bridges when performing its signature attack and also thanks to it being the signature Pokemon of a trainer that looks like a descendant of the original Drayden. Riddler Khu initially showed a picture of Black City and White Forest, hinting at the possibility of there being another new Pokemon as a counterpart to Archaludon, sharing themes withPokemon White, instead.

Furthermore,Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Zarude is the latest Mythical in the series, and there has been no clue as to what Gen 9 might bring if anything. With every generation having at least oneMythical Pokemon in the Pokedex, it would be strange forPokemon Scarlet and Violetto have none. However, both this alleged Archaludon counterpart forPokemon Whiteand a Gen 9 Mythical wouldn’t really fit in the current Pokedex for The Indigo Disk, posing several questions.

Thus, in addition to Archaludon, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, and Terapagos, the second expansion is rumored to feature a Paradox version of both Entei and Terrakion to complete the Legendary Beasts and the Swords of Justice (minus Keldeo), as well as a Dipplin evolution and the so-calledmaster “peach” Pokemon. New Paradox forms of Entei and Terrakion would not only make complete sense, but they have both been leaked by insiders, and Gen 9’s Scarlet Book and Violet Book include drawings of what seems like fusions of the Legendary Beasts and Swords of Justice.

Then,The Teal Mask’s Dipplin can use the Evioliteand gain bonus Defense and Special Defense, which confirms it’s getting an evolution in The Indigo Disk DLC. Lastly, the master peach Pokemon is seemingly going to be the most important in terms of storytelling in the expansion, as it’s meant to tie in the stories of the Loyal Three and Kieran with the Blueberry Academy. What follows is that these four Pokemon would already make for a total of eight new ones in The Indigo Disk, leaving no room for Archaludon’s rumored counterpart and a new Mythical for Gen 9.
