Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC pack may have not solved all the questions that players had when they first played through the base game, and despite this leaving a bittersweet taste when rolling credits on The Indigo Disk, it doesn’t mean the story is over for thisPokemongeneration or the ones it touches the most. There are grounds for Gen 9 games to get more DLC content even after the January 11 epilogue set to introducePokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Mythical Pokemon, but this remains speculation for the moment, if not an unlikely possibility. However, with the many leaks and rumors surrounding Gen 9, and withThe Indigo Disk’s easter eggs inPokemon Scarlet and Violet,Pokemonnow has the perfect blueprint to release Johto and Unova games at the same time.
Johto has been the longest without modern titles among generations that have gotten remakes so far, ranging from the first to the fourth, and that’s because of the Gen 1 modernization throughLet’s Go!titles. On the other hand, Unova has only been portrayed in Gen 5 games, andPokemon Black and Whiteare next in line for a remake or remaster after the release ofPokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. While this may seem like an impossible problem,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s new Indigo Disk Pokemongave Game Freak a big out - and that’s a new set of games encompassing both Johto and Unova.

Why Game Freak Could be Making a Past Johto Game and Future Unova Game
Ever since thePokemon Scarlet and Violetleaks showed Paradox Suicune and Virizion, or at least strange designs of them where they seemed like a fusion of their respective trios with past vs. future themes, there have been all sorts of theories aboutnew Johto or Unova games. Most of these theories make sense and make solid arguments for why there should be a newPokemongame for both regions, some even explaining which is more likely than the other.
However, precisely due to thosePokemon Scarlet and VioletParadox Pokemon designs, Game Freak has a chance to deliver both a new Johto game and a Unova title, possibly even at the same time. Given the end dialogue players can unlock after completing The Indigo Disk’s story with Professor Sada and Turo in Kitakami, where a time travel loop is essentially confirmed as the reason why Paradox Pokemon exist, one can’t help but wonder if the choice to give the Legendary Beasts past Paradox versions and the Swords of Justice future Paradox versions is in itself a hint towardPokemongames in the making.
In fact, with the heavy past vs. future themes of Gen 9, it’s entirely plausible that the Paradox Legendary Beasts are hinting at a Johto game set in the past, whereas the Paradox Swords of Justice are hinting at a Unova game set in the future. This would make a lot of sense considering the variousUnova hints inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk, to the point that the DLC actually takes place in the region - albeit it can’t be visited.
The Paradox Legendary Beasts could be how the trio looked before the infamous Burned Tower events took place in Johto, after which it was said that Suicune, Raikou, and Entei had perished. There is also a Sport Ball being given at the end ofPerrin’s quest in The Indigo Disk, which could be seen as yet another hint toward a Johto game. On the other hand, there are Iron Leaves, Iron Crown, and Iron Boulder as Unova references as well as several others, including Lacey being Clay’s daughter, Archaludon being an almost exact copy of Skyarrow Bridge, and Chargestone Cavern as a Terarium location. As such, it would only make sense for Game Freak to release both a past Johto game and a future Unova game, possibly even making them the new take onPokemon Legends: Arceus.
