An unfortunatePokemonfan loses all of his childhood games after being robbed during a trip to Barcelona. The classicPokemongames that were stolen are some of the most expensive and hardest games to find today.
Pokemonis one of Nintendo’s most successful franchiseswith a new game from the series present on most of the handheld systems the company has made. It all started in 1996 whenPokemon RedandPokemon Bluewere first released. For collectors looking to buy an unopened grade-10 copy of those two original games, they’ll have to spend up to $2500 dollars. Those are not the only classicPokemongames that are expensive either, with graded copies ofPokemonGold &Pokemon Silvercosting up to $1600, graded copies ofPokemonCrystalcosting as much as $3800, and sealed grade-10 copies ofPokemon FireRedgoing up as high as $4500. As mind-boggling as these prices are, the memories of playing each game as a child are priceless.

Reddit user DiegotheEcuadorian posted his story about losing his Nintendo DS and some of thebestPokemonDS games ever madeduring a robbery in Barcelona. In the robbery, Diego lostPokemon X,Pokemon Black, andPokemon Black 2, which are hard-to-find games, but loose copies can be purchased somewhat cheaply on sites like eBay. Unfortunately, he also lostPokemon Alpha Sapphire,Pokemon Soul Silver, andPokemonPlatinum, three games that can be purchased on eBay but at much higher prices. Altogether, the six games can be purchased out of the box on eBay for around $400 to $600, plus the cost of a new DS.
Under the comments for the post, Diego received plenty of sympathy, followed by more unfortunate stories aboutlosing classicPokemongames. Other Reddit users' stories included Nina3491’s about her younger cousin getting all their Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games stolen in an airport and Thatkentuckydaddy’s story about leaving his Gameboy Advance with all his classicPokemongames on a bus in Miami. These stories are as equally as tragic as Diego’s and act as good lessons for gamers to never carry all of their games with them while traveling. The sympathy and stories seem to have worked, as DiegotheEcuadorian left a comment that appeared to be in good spirits.
It is possible that Nintendo could release theseclassicPokemongames on the Switchin the future. The Nintendo Switch Online service has received a fewPokemongames, such asPokemon Stadium,Pokemon Snap, andPokemonPuzzle League. Plus, with the remake ofLuigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, a game initially released on the 3DS, an even more powerful version of the regular DS, coming to the Switch next year, there’s always hope that some of thePokemonDS classics may get ported or remade as well.
