A little more than a week before the games launched, Nintendo put out a news update forPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlthat describeda day-one patchfor both titles as well as some of the plans that the publisher has in store for them. Among these plans was the introduction of the wildly popular Global Wonder Station, an area originally introduced inPokemon XandYthat allowed trainers to receive random Pokemon from trades with people all over the world through a mechanic known as “Wonder Trade.”
Unfortunately, while Nintendo will be replacingDiamondandPearl’s Global Trade Stationwith the Global Wonder Station — bringing the area back after leaving it absent fromPokemon SwordandShield— the Wonder Station itself will not include the Wonder Trade mechanic upon arrival. Instead, players will only be able to Link Trade through the area — Link Trading being the equivalent of regular trading, where each trainer specifically selects the Pokemon they want to trade for.

That said, it’s still very much possible for Wonder Trade to come toPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. Like the Global Wonder Station itself, Nintendo likely plans to include Wonder Trade in a future update, but unlike the Station, the publisher needs more time to get the mechanic working. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense for Nintendo to bring back the area known for the mechanic if it had no intention of bringing back the mechanic itself.
Exactly whenWonder Tradewill arrive remains a mystery, as it’s still unclear when the Global Wonder Station itself will make an appearance. The news update Nintendo put out only relays that the update for it is coming; it doesn’t specify when, and since its release, Nintendo hasn’t revealed anything more about its plans. A guess would place it sometime around late December or early January, with the Wonder Station coming early or mid-December.
In the meantime, players can spend their hours filling out their Pokedex with the features introduced inBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearl’s day-one patch, such asRamanas Park, an area available to trainers after they become the Sinnoh region’s champion. The park allows them to catch legendary and mythical Pokemon that aren’t usually available in the Sinnoh region, such as Rayquaza and the original Regi trio. Afterward’s there’s no harm in catching a bunch of Bidoof to prepare the randomness of Wonder Trade.
