For a month now, players around the globe have found it extremely difficult to get their hands on Sony’s new PS5 home console. SinceWalmart began taking pre-orders earlyback in September, the consoles have been incredibly hard to come by. However, it appears that gamers in Europe may soon have the opportunity to purchase their PS5 directly from Sony according to a new job listing.

The new job listing from PlayStation Europe indicates that a European version of PlayStation Direct is currently in the works. For those that don’t know,PlayStation Directis an online storefront that allows players to purchase hardware directly from Sony. The site has been available for gamers in the US for a little over a year now, however, those that have attempted to purchase their PS5 this way have come away with mixed opinions.

Perhaps the most controversial move for PlayStation Direct in the US was when it was revealed thatpre-orders would be invite-only. Players were sent an email inviting them to register for the console pre-order, but the store didn’t automatically guarantee a PS5 to those that registered. Instead, it ensured registered users would have a spot in the queue when PS5 pre-orders went live.

While PlayStation Direct appears to have had a spotty record with PS5 sales and customers in the US, this may be a better alternative than what some players have dealt with to get their console. Scalpers have presented themselves as a constant nuisance since PS5 and Xbox Series pre-orders began. These individuals have managed to acquire multiple next-gen consoles and flipped them for a major profit. In fact, according to a recent analysis, scalpers have made around $82 million in sales, with one analyst stating thatPS5’s are being sold for 300% more than retail value.

Considering this job listing is for the Director of PlayStation Direct Europe, it seems that European players may have a while to wait before this becomes a viable option for purchasing a PS5. One major retailer has decided a new approach to consoles though. It was recently reported that Walmart will be switching all of its sales of thePS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X to online only. However, considering how reliable Walmart’s site has been during console sales so far, players might want to begin researching other retailers to order a PS5 or just wait until stocks are better in the coming months.
