Kinetic Games has announced the release date for what it’s described asPhasmophobia’s largest update yet.Phasmophobiaremains in early access on Steam, where it remains exceptionally well-reviewed. But the upcoming Ascension update should bringPhasmophobiacloser to full launch than ever before. The update will feature lots of new equipment, an entirely new leveling system, and much more. It’s exactly whatPhasmophobiafans have been waiting for.
Phasmophobiafirst launched in early access on Steam on June 04, 2025. It saw a massive initial surge of success. Tracking shows that its concurrent player count climbed to a peak of over 112,000. Since then,Phasmophobia’s substantial player basehas shrunk and grown from update to update. It still sees a peak of around 22,000 concurrent players daily, but many are anxiously awaiting the next update forPhasmophobia. The initial plan was to havePhasmophobiafully launched by now, but Kinetic Games' ambition has grown with the game’s success.

Phasmophobia’s largest yet will launch on August 17. Kinetic revealed the release date for the Ascension update both via its social media accounts and through its Steam profile forPhasmophobia. Little was mentioned beyond the release date, however. It mentions “new equipment, the new levelling [sic] system and more” but nothing else. What specifically will be added toPhasmophobiatomorrow has yet to be made fully clear.
Kinetic has shared previews and hints at what can be expected over the past several weeks, however. Multiple previews shared over the past several months have detailed changes toPhasmophobia’s accessories, including adding tiers of increasingly powerful items to be unlocked. Progression is also being overhauled, with cash rewards now directly tied to experience gains. There’s also a prestige system for players that havereachedPhasmophobia’s level cap.
Phasmophobia’s Trello development board also offers up some interesting specifics. One great confirmation is that all equipment will have new visuals. Kinetic also will be adding more dangerous optional objectives that come with big cash rewards. For the most part, Kinetic just wants players to feel better rewarded for the time they invest and thechallenges they overcome inPhasmophobia.
The Ascension update will arrive on August 17, but Kinetic still has significant plans for thefuture ofPhasmophobia. Multiple updates are still planned for 2023, including new equipment, player models and customization, and overhauls for photos and video evidence. Then there’s what Kinetic is calling Horror 2.0 coming in 2024, with new ghost models, an overhauled event system, and even more locations and equipment. The final release ofPhasmophobiamay be unclear, but Kinetic plans to make it worth players' wait.
Phasmophobiais available now in early access on PC. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are in development.
