Nintendo has surprised fans with the announcement ofPaper Mario: The Origami Kingfor the Nintendo Switch. However, it seems some leakers beat Nintendo to the punch, having already confirmed that aPaper Mariogame would be coming to the Switch in 2020, along with a number of other games.

The firstPaper Marioleak came about in January, when it was claimed that Nintendo would be releasing aPaper Mariogame for the Switch, along with a2DMetroid. The 2DMetroidgame has yet to be announced, but it is worth pointing out that thePaper Mario: The Origami Kingtrailer ends with Mario wearing a papier-mache Samus helmet. A couple of months after the leak ofPaper Marioand 2DMetroid, other Nintendo games planned for 2020 also leaked online.

These included Nintendo’s plans to celebrate theSuper Mariofranchise’s 35th anniversary. According to the rumors, Nintendo is prepping aSwitch port ofSuper Mario 3D World, alongside a collection of older 3DSuper Mariogames in the vein of theSuper Mario All-Starscollection. Apparently, this collection will includeSuper Mario 64,Super Mario Sunshine, and bothSuper Mario Galaxygames.

While it’s possible that thePaper Mario: The Origami Kingannouncement is just a coincidence, its reveal does lend more credibility to these old leaks, and indicates that Nintendo fans may have a ton to look forward to this year. If Nintendo is planning these big announcements, though, one has to wonder when exactly it will all take place.

Previously, Nintendo was expected to be hosting a big Nintendo Direct presentation in June to coincide with E3. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench in those plans, with Nintendo believed to be pushing back its presentation to later in the summer. Speculation points to Nintendo originally planning on announcingPaper Mario: The Origami Kingat its June Nintendo Direct, which would presumably also be where it announced theSuper Mario3D collectionand its other rumored games.

If so, one can expectNintendoto announce the 3DSuper Mariocollection and the 2DMetroidat some point late in the summer. Of course, fans can’t rule out that these leaks are still inaccurate, so they should take all of this information with a grain of salt.

Paper Mario: The Origami Kinglaunches on July 17, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
