Summary

A recentOverwatch 2hotfix just made it so Bastion’s Reconfigure ability no longer restores armor when transforming. This significant nerf will make theOverwatch 2DPS hero a lot less tanky and will make it easier to counter him in matches.

Previously, whenBastion used his Reconfigure ability inOverwatch 2, it also restored 50 armor to the hero, effectively acting as a self-heal. This, when combined with his Ironclad passive that reduces incoming damage by 20% while transformed and the innate 30% damage reduction of armor, made him one of the most resilient DPS heroes available.

However,Overwatch 2’s recent hotfix dials that survivability down a bit. Now, Bastion no longer recovers any armor when using Reconfigure. According to the developers, the combination of self-healing with his damage reduction made Bastion too adept at surviving ambushes and dives, so this change should make playing against the hero a bit less frustrating. The Bastion nerf is the only thing that changed in the hotfix.

The last few weeks have not been kind to Bastion.Overwatch 2’s mid-season patch on September 7introduced a few other nerfs to the DPS hero as well. The impact damage of the A-36 Tactical Grenade was halved to compensate for the increased radius from a previous buff, and his Configuration: Artillery ultimate can no longer deal critical hits–a bug fix that is technically a nerf.

Bastion is one of the characters that has changed the most since his original appearance inOverwatch 1. The DPS hero used to become an immobile sentry turret sporting a shield projector, with the ability to temporarily transform into a mobile tank as his ultimate. The hero received a significant rework in the sequel, butBastion was made unavailable for several weeks afterOverwatch 2launched due to a game-breaking exploit. The robotic sentry has had a bumpy journey, and these nerfs aren’t making it any smoother.

Even so, Bastion remains a terror on the battlefield. Even with his self-heal removed, he has more total health than any otherDPS hero inOverwatch 2–even without accounting for the damage reduction from his armor or Ironclad passive. In spite of the nerf, Bastion is still a strong pick for any team. Players facing Bastion should be able to eliminate him more easily in his Assault mode now, but they will still need to use caution, as he can easily melt the sturdiest of tanks with a few seconds of concentrated fire.

BASTION

Developer Comments: Bastion’s self-healing during transformation was doubly effective with how the Ironclad passive stacked with armor damage reduction, making him too capable of surviving ambushes and dives.
