Summary
The world ofRed Dead Redemptionis gritty and brutal, but is also filled with unique storytelling potential. Little to nothing is known about the future of the franchise, but whether a theoreticalRed Dead Redemption 3eschews traditionor sticks to the series' six-shooters, there’s one path for the story that would be rather predictable, for better or worse.
Fans of 2010’sRed Dead Redemptionhad to wait a grueling eight years for its sequel, but many considered the wait to be well worth the reward.Red Dead Redemption 2was a prequel to the first game and thus added additional context to John Marston while adding and fleshing out new characters, including Arthur Morgan. Morgan filling the role of the player-character was a tough pill to swallow for some fans who were expecting a sequel that was more focused on Marston, but he ended up becoming an iconic lead and one of the best parts ofRed Dead Redemption 2. As fans speculate as tothe potentialRDR3settingand general premise, many may be wondering if the series will introduce a brand-new main character, or perhaps give players control over another, already established character.

Sadie Adler was one of the best parts ofRed Dead Redemption 2. Her transformation from grieving widow to fearless bounty hunter was gratifying to watch unfold, and her rough, unapologetic charm made her an easy fan favorite. Her bravery, skill set, personality, and emotional backstory make her a clear choice for the role of protagonist in a futureRed Dead Redemptiongame.
AssumingRDR3isn’t set in the past, it could focus on Adler’s adventures in South America, asRed Dead Redemption 2’s epilogue hints that that’s where she decided to relocate. This new setting could be exciting, as it would offer an entirely new set of environments and a different culture to engage with. Placing Sadie in the middle of these unfamiliar lands could also open the doors to new storytelling opportunities that could further flesh out her character and define her as a separate entity from the gang.
While this route could lead to a great story, it also might be just a bit too obvious.Red Dead Redemption 2expanded the franchise’s cast of characters, but in a way that still connected to John Marston’s story. Shifting the spotlight over to Adler, or anyotherRed Dead Redemptioncharacterfor that matter, could be a bit of a stretch; it wouldn’t be clear how Adler’s story would relate to the broader narrative of theRed Dead Redemptionfranchise, and it could feel likeRed Dead Redemption 3is just offering fan service by giving its third game over to a beloved character. If the franchise wants to keep building upon the narrative foundation laid by the first two games, it might make more sense for a character like Jack Marston to serve as the protagonist.
Then again, if Rockstar wants the nextRed Dead Redemptiongame to serve as a fresh start for the series, then it would be hard to pick a better lead than Adler.RDRfans may not want new charactersto be the focus of the third game, and Adler could serve as the connective tissue between other beloved characters like Charles, whose whereabouts are still uncertain at the end ofRed Dead Redemption 2. The game could offer a new narrative, one that is separate from the first two games, but featuring one or more of the franchise’s most popular characters. This would allow for new and exciting storytelling, while also keeping things familiar for fans.
